Max Lerner: Garrison and Shaw
I posted an important Max Lerner opinion piece yesterday on Garrison's early thinking on the JFK conspiracy. Garrison told Lerner, just like he told Hugh Aynesworth, James Phelan, Merriman Smith, and Lawrence Schiller, that homosexuals were behind the conspiracy. Here is another excellent Lerner opinion piece. Springfield Daily News, February 24, 1969 I find this article to be particularly persuasive. Lerner mentions Edward Jay Epstein's book, Counterplot . It's an excellent

Garrison Mentions a Homosexual Plot to Yet Another Journalist
Washington Evening Star, June 14, 1967 Max Lerner sat down with Jim Garrison at his home in New Orleans for three hours. Money paragraphs: It's not clear exactly when Lerner sat down with Garrison. But this is very consistent with what Garrison told Hugh Aynesworth, James Phelan, Merriman Smith, and Lawrence Schiller. In addition, here is what Perry Russo told Shaw's attorneys in March 1971: Sounds almost identical to the Lerner article. Check out this post on Jim Garrison an

Jim Garrison's "fatally flawed case built on flimsy evidence."
Here is an overview of the Garrison investigation from the New Orleans Times-Picayune of December 15, 1991. Here are some of the important quotes in this article: "He had changed from a liberal, crusading, dedicated public officer to a megalomaniac. Once he became fixed on the Kennedy probe, he became absolutely ruthless in his pursuit of it." David Chandler on Jim Garrison "A few of us quite frankly were relieved. We were hoping this was the opportunity we had been waiting

Art Buchwald Skewers Jim Garrison
Art Buchwald was a political satirist whose work appeared in over 550 newspapers across the United States. He won the Pulitzer Prize for Outstanding Commentary in 1982. In 1967 there was a scandal regarding Senator Thomas Dodd of Connecticut. It centered on Dodd's association with Julius Klein, a public relations consultant for several West German clients and there were allegations of financial wrongdoing. Garrison vs. the people
Here is an editorial from the Chicago Daily News right after the acquittal of Clay Shaw: Chicago Daily News, March 4, 1969 Unfortunately, Garrison was re-elected for another term. Here is an editorial from the Arkansas Gazette from March 4, 1969: And, here is the San Francisco Chronicle from March 4, 1969: Note the inclusion of homosexuals with "bums, perjurers...and other social misfits and bottom rungers." And in a paper from San Francisco. Gay people still had ways to g

Marguerite Oswald Sends a Telegram to Jim Garrison
.I don't have the rest of the message. Was Marguerite looking for payment? Here is the article from the May 30, 1968 issue of the New Orleans States-Item. Here is Jim Garrison's reply to Marguerite Oswald: Yup, Oswald was an "intelligent, clean-cut American boy." What is really crazy is Garrison's statement that "One of the individuals working with our investigation had noticed that the federal government was buying up all copies of the book and got curious as to why this was

Jim Garrison Claims Lee Harvey Oswald was a Victim
New Orleans Times-Picayune, June 18, 1967 Here is a letter that Garrison wrote to Marina Oswald: Marina wasn't too happy about receiving a subpoena. Here is a headline that reflected her feelings: You can read Marina's testimony here. Of course, Garrison maintained that Clay Shaw conspired with Lee Harvey Oswald. Here is the grand jury indictment of Clay Shaw:

A Doctoral Candidate Writes Garrison about Edgar Eugene Bradley
The poor woman (Jutta is a female name). Looking for Jim Garrison for help with her doctoral thesis is like asking Robert Kennedy Jr. to help with your medical exams. And then Garrison wants to receive any information she has on McIntire. Jutta did publish her work. Jim Garrison had a fascination with odd (and old) churches. Jim Garrison Writes to Arch Kimbrough...
Here is a letter that Garrison wrote to Arch Kimbrough, another JFK assassination researcher: James Dondson was the man who was with Clay Shaw during the weekend of the assassination. Was there a second Dondson? Garrison writes: "The problem is that these curious CIA types -- such as Ferrie, Bradley and Beckham -- have made themselves part of odd religions or extreme right-wing groups, and sometimes a combination of both. In most instances, however, their history in intellige

Edgar Eugene Bradley Writes Jim Garrison
Here are two letters that Bradley wrote Jim Garrison: Garrison did not take up Bradley on his offer to meet, although they did talk on the phone (see below). Bradley wrote again in September 1969: Bradley and Garrison eventually did meet. Here is an excerpt of a letter sent by Mary Ferrell to Harold Weisberg on September 10, 1991 : Yup, of course, Garrison had been misled. That's the standard line. Why was Elmer Renfroe Scared of Jim Garrison?
Elmer Renfroe was a gay man who lived in the French Quarter in New Orleans and once, while drunk, told stories to a confidential informant of Aaron Kohn, head of the Metropolitan Crime Commission: The informant spoke again to Renfroe a few days later: Investigators for Clay Shaw spoke to Renfroe in March, 1967: Renfroe was interviewed again in April: It appears that Richard Townley, a local reporter, might have been the confidential informant. What is interesting is the fact

Jim Garrison on the JFK Assassination, 1989
The Los Angeles Times of March 12, 1989 gave Jim Garrison some excellent coverage of his book, On The Trail of the Assassins . Here is what he had to say about the assassination: Ridiculous then, and ridiculous now. In the 1970s, Garrison told journalist Ron Rosenbaum that Larry Crafard, who worked for Jack Ruby for a short time, was a grassy knoll assassin. Of course, Jim Garrison also believed that Fred Crisman was one of the grassy knoll assassins.

Was Jim Garrison Paid by the CIA?
Jim Garrison charged that the lawyers of various witnesses, including Gordon Novel, were paid by the CIA . In the late 1970s, Gordon Novel was charged with firebombing a building in New Orleans and one of his lawyers was Jim Garrison. This prompted a very funny comment from a prosecutor. Here is an excerpt from a letter that Fred Newcomb wrote to Richard E. Sprague on December 2, 1969: The Mary in the letter is Mary Ferrell.
