The Final Chapter in the Assassination Controversy?
Edward Jay Epstein wrote this for the April 20, 1969 edition of the New York Times Magazine . His conclusion was wrong - Garrison was not the final chapter and there was a new investigation. Money Quote : Like Lane, each of the critics claimed to have access to at least part of Garrison's "secret evidence," and on this basis they warned the public that the Johnson Administration would face dire consequences if Garrison were ever allowed to bring his evidence to court. For his

Garrison, White-Collar Demagogue
Here is a book review of Edward Jay Epstein's 1969 book, Counterplot : (you can read his book here ) New York Magazine, February 10, 1969 Money quote: After reading Mr. Epstein's fascinating Counterplot (a chunk of it ran in the New Yorker ), I have evolved my own theory, to which I refuse to swear under oath. It is this: the "second Oswald" is really Jim Garrison. Both wanted a piece of the attention action in America. Both suffered from the strange new disease of media pe

A Candid Appraisal of Jim Garrison from the CIA
C ourtesy of the Malcolm Blunt Archive . The document is contained in the CIA folder within the Garrison folder. Here is a link to the actual document. The document is referenced on the last page of a just-released unredacted CIA chronology of Mexico City. See the last page. That comment can be more conveniently seen in of the searchable copies released earlier. Note written by COS: This guy GARRISON is so far gone that would not be acceptable in any luny [sic] bin!! "COS"

Was Lee Harvey Oswald a Man of the Right?
Warren Commission critic Harold Weisberg played an important role in shaping Jim Garrison's thinking. Here is an excerpt from Dean Andrews' interview with NBC for their special from June 1967: Question: No, just tell the story (over Dean's laughter) what you ... what you ... Andrews: ... best as I can recall, sometime in October [1966], maybe the first part of November, I got a phone call to meet him [Garrison] in Brouss ... Question: meet him where? Andrews: Broussard's .

Jim Garrison (and others) on Rose Cherami
What did Jim Garrison say or write on Rose Cherami? Here is an excerpt from his Playboy Magazine interview of October 1967: Garrison mangles the story. He claims a hospital attendant took notes of Cherami's remarks, but that is not true. There was nothing in Cherami's files about any comments on the assassination. Cherami didn't check out of the hospital - she was taken out by Lt. Francis Fruge of the Louisiana State Police. He took her to Houston to help investigate her tip

Jim Garrison's Pressure on the Gay Community of New Orleans
Here is a good example of the pressure Garrison was putting on people in the gay community. You can find this document here. Informant No. 949-C is Betty Parent a.k.a. Parrot, who also provided information to Garrison. She will be turning up in an upcoming blog post. Here is a report on Bill McKenzie from Shaw's investigators. In the second page, McKenzie says that Sciambra has driven a lot of business away from his bar. and that "many of the homosexuals are lying low during

Garrison's Playboy Interview - More Secret Information
Garrison tried hard to convince Playboy he was the real deal. And, so he wrote them a memo. I found this in the papers of Elmer Gertz, Gordon Novel's lawyer, and it appears that Garrison didn't have time to finish the memo. Once again, you can see that Garrison was well aware of the Paese Sera articles about Clay Shaw and Permindex/CMC. He references the Italian, French and Canadian stories - but all of those stories emanated from Paese Sera, a communist-controlled newspaper

Garrison's Playboy Interview - What Couldn't Be Printed
The October 1967 issue of Playboy Magazine contained the longest interview in their history - 20,000 words from Jim Garrison. About 5 million copies were printed and Playboy organized a press tour for Garrison. You can read the whole interview here . Here is Playboy's press release for their interview: Warren Commission critic Sylvia Meagher did not much like the Garrison interview and she wrote Playboy a 3-page letter. For the first time ever, here is her letter: As you can
