  • Oliver Stone Proves the Single-Bullet Theory

This scene from Oliver Stone's JFK inadvertently supports the single-bullet theory. Here is a frame showing the limousine from the sixth floor window of the TSBD: (from 3:07 in the above clip) Of course, this doesn't prove the single-bullet theory. There are all sorts of issues with the frame number, the position of Kennedy and Connally -- but, it's amazingly close. Certainly this should have suggested to Oliver Stone that the single-bullet theory was quite possible. Update Bill Roe points out something interesting: At 3:00 in the film clip you linked, Stone shows a cropped frame from the Zapruder film while Costner says Connally has not yet been hit because he is holding his Stetson hat. Next he says Connally is hit at frame 238. But the frame he showed with Connally's hat is actually frame 272...which I hope most would agree is AFTER 238! Here is a crop of 272...compare it with the frame at 3:00 in the clip. Previous Relevant Blog Posts Did Knott Laboratory Disprove the Single-Bullet Theory? They certainly did not. • Anna Paulina Luna Doubles Down on Mind Control

After two ridiculous hearings on the JFK assassination and a silly hearing on MK-Ultra, Anna Paulina Luna is ready to strike again. Luna's Ridiculous Hearing Luna's second hearing -- I don't know what was worse - the silly testimony of the witnesses or the brainless questions of the committee members. Jefferson Morley's Congressional NothingBurger An analysis of Congresswoman Luna's Congressional Hearings. MK-Ultra -- Once Again An examination of Luna's hearings on MK-Ultra. In September, she will be having hearings on the RFK assassination, and Lisa Pease will be testifying. Lisa Pease is the author of A Lie Too Big to Fail: The Real History of the Assassination of Robert F. Kennedy. Pease believes that Sirhan Sirhan was hypnotized that night in Los Angeles and was firing blanks. Several other witnesses also thought Sirhan was firing was a cap gun or blanks by the sound alone. Dick Tuck heard “what sounded like cap pistols or firecrackers.” He heard at least five shots and then a commotion broke out. Valerie Schulte thought the gun sounded like a “cap gun.” Richard Lubic told the FBI he heard two shots “which sounded like shots from a starter pistol at a track meet.” And this is still not a complete list of such statements. The simplest explanation for this is also the best explanation: Sirhan was actually firing blanks, not bullets, in the pantry. This explanation fits everything witnesses saw, felt and heard. And if Sirhan were firing blanks, everything else starts to fall into place. Knowing Sirhan was going to be firing blanks, other conspirators simply had to wait until Sirhan fired his first shot. Then, while everyone else in the pantry froze in shock and fear, assassins moved quickly to get the job done. Pease mentions MK-Ultra nineteen times in her book and believes that Sirhan Sirhan was a victim of mind control. Mel Ayton reviewed Pease's book and found it to be nonsense. Here is what he wrote about Pease's idea of a hypnotized patsy: Myth No. 3: The Hypnotized Assassin Like conspiracy theorists before her, Pease believes that Sirhan was a hypnotized assassin programmed to forget. She takes Sirhan at his word that he cannot remember anything after drinking coffee with a girl at the Ambassador Hotel—until he became aware of being choked as he was being subdued by Kennedy’s bodyguards in the kitchen pantry. Falling further down the rabbit hole Pease argues that a hypnotized Sirhan served as a distraction in front of Kennedy, firing blanks and drawing the crowd’s attention, while the actual shooters shot Kennedy from behind and escaped. She cites a number of witnesses who thought the sounds of the shooting sounded as though they came from a cap gun emitting shredded paper which fluttered through the air. This is the totality of her proof that Sirhan did not fire real bullets. Pease cites hypnotists Bjorn Nielsen and Derren Brown as evidence that hypnotized assassins can be created. Nielsen purportedly hypnotized Palle Hardrup to commit murder in 1951. But on 5 August 1972, Palle Hardrup gave an interview to Soren Petersen of the Danish tabloid newspaper B.T. He admitted he had not been hypnotized into committing the murders. Presaging Sirhan’s imaginative defense in 1968, Hardrup told the B.T. journalist that when the police had suggested that hypnotism had caused the crimes, he realized he “might get off the hook” if he agreed. Pease also naively alleges a show business hypnotist, Derren Brown, had successfully “programmed” a “Manchurian Candidate–style” assassin during one of his television shows. The entertainer himself, however, has scorned these claims. In 2018 Brown said, “The more bewildered we are, the more susceptible we become . . . . I’m quite open about how the whole thing I do happens in inverted commas, so not to believe everything you see or hear. It’s a form of entertainment. Some of it’s real and some of it isn’t. Hopefully, part of the fun is trying to unpick that.” Pease also accepts without reservation the conclusions of Dr. Daniel Brown, who has asserted that Sirhan “did not act under his own volition and knowledge at the time of the assassination and is not responsible for actions coerced and/or carried out by others.” According to Brown, Sirhan was a “true ‘Manchurian Candidate,’ hypno-programmed into carrying out a violent political act without knowing it.” Brown is a proponent of “recovered memory syndrome” which postulates that some patients who have suffered trauma in their lives have, over the years, suppressed memories of it—and yet it is possible to revive these memories through proper treatment. The existence of repressed memory recovery has not been accepted by mainstream psychology, including by the Royal College of Psychiatrists in Britain, the British Psychological Society, and the American Psychological Association. According to the latter, it is not possible to distinguish repressed memories from false ones without corroborating evidence. Some experts in the field of human memory believe that no credible scientific support exists for the notions of repressed/recovered memories. The mechanism(s) by which both of these phenomena happen are not well understood. Many conspiracy advocates believe the CIA used hypnosis to control Sirhan and then programmed him to forget. The agency, however, had long before abandoned the idea that it was possible to turn men into puppets. CIA scientists were also never able to produce “total amnesia” in a subject, and a CIA scientist named Morse Allen came to the conclusion there were too many variables in hypnosis for it to be a reliable tool for such a sensitive activity. The Israeli Mossad came to the same conclusion. Their officers once attempted to hypnotize a Palestinian into killing Yassir Arafat but the plot failed when they discovered that hypnosis failed to create the desired results. It seems clear Sirhan himself was the original propagator of this fantasy. There is compelling evidence that Sirhan used his knowledge of Perry Smith, a real-life murderer portrayed in Truman Capote’s 1965 book, In Cold Blood, to promote the fable that he, too, had been in a hypnotic state when he shot RFK. Sirhan, an avid reader, identified and felt great empathy with Smith, according to author Robert Blair Kaiser. Smith had bouts of “shivering,” “amnesia,” and “trance-like states, and like him, Sirhan engaged in “mirror-gazing” and fell into “trances.” The hypnotized assassin theory is fundamentally flawed because a robotic assassin can never be a guaranteed success. A hypnotist can plant a suggestion in the subject’s mind and ask him to forget that suggestion, but there is no fool-proof way of preventing another hypnotist from coming along and recovering the memory. How could plotters, for example, be sure that a captured Sirhan would continue to forget about the people who purportedly hypnotized him? How could they be certain he would not give evidence to the authorities in return for immunity? It should come no surprise, then, that California courts have roundly rejected Brown’s “hypnotized assassin” theory. Pease loves the idea of hypnotized patsies: Let's start with Tyler Robinson, the person who shot Charlie Kirk. (Clicking on the tweet below will take you to the source.) And of course, Kirk was killed by Israel: A hypnotized patsy is her default position: Perhaps Mark David Chapman, who shot John Lennon, was also a hypnotized patsy: And Luigi Mangione: And Arthur Bremer, the man who shot George Wallace: And the Lockerbie bomber: And Jared Loughner, who shot and wounded Gabby Giffords in 2011: And Robert Card, who killed 18 people in a shooting spree in Lewiston, Maine in 2023: Gee, who wasn't mind-controlled? Pease also believes that there is more evidence the Mossad killed RFK than JFK: But if the Mossad was involved in the JFK assassination, it was only at a low level: Now you know -- the "CIA may run the Mossad." I always thought it was the other way around. And Israel has been "blackmailing leaders for DECADES." And the CIA has also been doing some blackmailing: Lisa Pease is fast becoming a fan of Candace Owens, an outright antisemite. Of course, there is the ultimate mind control operation: This chapter is about the manipulation of the mind, and not only Sirhan’s. There is a far more insidious and invisible mind control operation at work in this case that continues to this day. That operation is a war for the public’s mind on this case, on the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, and other matters. It is hard to believe that Lisa Pease is going to testify before Congress. And guess what? No Congressperson will cross-examine her, and they will thank her for being brave and for telling the American people the truth. It's embarrassing and it's sickening. • "Guilt by Orientation" - The CIA Strikes Again!

Last Saturday, author Jamie Kirchick published a terrific essay, "Guilt by Orientation," about Oliver Stone's "three-decade slander" of Clay Shaw. I strongly recommend everybody read this article. James DiEugenio was not as impressed. But the best reaction was from fellow-conspiracy theorist Lisa Pease: This is a standard play from the conspiracy theorist handbook - anybody debunking a JFK conspiracy theory must be working for the CIA. I get this all the time on Facebook. My usual answer is to tell people that they wouldn't believe the size of my CIA paychecks. I am fortunate that someone saved Ms. Pease's tweet as a .jpg because she has blocked me: Jamie Kirchick's new book, Secret City: The Hidden History of Gay Washington, will be out in May. • "Guilt by Orientation" - The CIA Strikes Again, Part Two

Yesterday I posted Lisa Pease's accusation that Jamie Kirchick was CIA - which is probably the most heinous crime anybody can be accused of. You can read Kirchick's superb article here. An important excerpt: The film’s [JFK] ridiculous thesis is summed up in a line defiantly spoken to Garrison by O’Keefe: “You don’t know shit because you’ve never been fucked in the ass.” Apparently, the terrible truth about the assassination of John F. Kennedy was accessible only to bottoms. That JFK was released just as the number of gay men dying from AIDS was cresting compounds its repugnance. Even if Shaw was innocent, Stone implied in an interview with Esquire, his prosecution would have been justified. Garrison’s attempt to “force a break in the case” and thereby discredit the Warren Commission was “worth the sacrifice of one man,” he said. It was a chillingly authoritarian sentiment, and in light of how Stone would go on to produce a series of hagiographic films about dictators, including Vladimir Putin, Hugo Chávez, Fidel Castro, and former Kazakh president Nursultan Nazarbayev, a portentous one. Hounded to the grave by a demagogic district attorney, Clay Shaw can no longer defend himself from Jim Garrison’s calumnies—or Oliver Stone’s. But at a time when prosecutorial abuses and conspiracy theories are undermining faith in our democracy, we would do well to heed the ordeal of a man victimized by both. Lisa Pease, who appears in Oliver Stone's so-called documentary, JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass, tweeted other silly stuff: https://twitter.com/lisapease/status/1487948397290352641 Lisa Pease @lisapease The CIA's full court press to insist they had nothing to do with JFK's assassination is actually making their role that much more obvious. Jefferson Morley's Unbearable Lightness of Being Now that the entire personnel file of George Joannides has been released, Jefferson Morley has now published his unified theory of nothingness. I posted this excerpt from Volume X of the HSCA Appendix Volumes: I have just found Gaeton Fonzi's HSCA Outside Contact Reports with a variety of DRE leaders. Here is his report on Jose Lanusa: The first three pages concern what happened after the assassination, and you can see that after Lanusa heard that Lee Harvey Oswald was the assassin, he checked the files and found the Bringuier material. He then called his CIA contact, George Joannides, who is not named in the memo. He told Lanusa to wait an hour and that he would call back with instructions. But Lanusa could not wait and contacted the press on his own. Here is the Gaeton Fonzi HSCA Outside Contact Report for Ross Crozier who was the CIA contact for the DRE in 1962 before George Joannides: He said he does not recall the name of the officer who replaced him but would not reveal it to us, because of his secrecy agreement, if he did. Fonzi also talked to Juan Manuel Salvat Roque, another senior DRE leader: He said that after Ross Crozier ("Roger") was removed as the CIA's liaison with the DRE in November, 1962, he met a number of other CIA officials. First there was "Vicente" or "Riccardo (he is not certain), then there was "Howard," then "the Colonel" and then "Pablo." Howard was George Joannides. The only incident Salvat remembers of Lee Harvey Oswald attempting to infiltrate the DRE was the one told to him by Carlos Bringuier in New Orleans. As far as he knows, Bringuier was the only DRE member who had ever had contact with Oswald. It appears that it was more important to Fonzi to research the Veciana story, to work on David Atlee Phillips, and on E. Howard Hunt and Frank Sturgis, than it was to find out who replaced Ross Crozier. Here is Fonzi's report on Isidro Borja: "I know that Bringuier gave us information that that had happened and that we made a report to the CIA about it," said Borja. Borja confirms what the other DRE leaders said about Bringuier and Oswald. It is also apparent from Borja that the DRE started to disregard the direction of the CIA in 1962 and went off on its own. Fonzi certainly talked to a lot of people: For a good overview of what this was all about, check this out: Fact Checking Morley's Fact Check Previous Relevant Blog Posts on Jefferson Morley Jefferson Morley Gets a New Job It's not clear what he will be doing. • Did a Piece of Paper with the Names of Jack Ruby and Lee Oswald Provide a Link to Rose Cherami?

Hat tip: My friend Steve Roe found this gem in James DiEugenio's book. Destiny Betrayed, and wrote it up on the Education Forum. Once again, James DiEugenio finds another piece of non-existent evidence that he finds persuasive: (page 79) "The story could possibly have been even more explosive than Fruge thought. For on November 28, 1963, a Margaret Kay Kauffman of Martinsburg, Pennsylvania, told the FBI that her mother had recovered a piece of paper in the leaves beneath her porch. It was a trailer advertisement. In handwriting scrawled across the top left was the name of a club called the Silver Slipper or Silver Bell. In the top middle of the page was the name Lee Oswald. On the top right was the name Rubinstein [sic]. In the middle was the name Jack Ruby and at the bottom was the name Dallas, Texas. A Cuban doctor named Julio Fernandez often burned trash in their backyard, under her balcony. The paper with the names on it was found about 20 feet from his last burn. Fernandez's brother had been the captain of police under Fulgencio Batista." The story mentioned in the first sentence refers to Rose Cherami who supposedly had foreknowledge of the JFK assassination. You can read more about Rose Cherami here. We'll come back to that shortly. DiEugenio's source is Probe Magazine and an FBI memo written by SA Edward Kern on 12/2/61. This is a typo and here is the report by SA Edward Kern from 12/2/63 (this report and others are part of Warren Commission Exhibit 3067): The above two pages contain the allegation cited by DiEugenio. But he leaves out the rest of the Warren Commission Exhibit. The FBI then talked to Mrs. Margaret Kathryn Hoover: So, Mrs. Hoover could not locate the advertisement. The FBI then spoke to Mrs. Hoover's daughter: Note that Mrs. Hoover first felt the materials were related to her husband's "amorous activities," and then later attributed the papers to Dr. Fernandez. Her daughter did not "place any particular significance on this discovery and did not recall it again until her mother called her..." The FBI then spoke to Gerald Kauffman: He says that his wife "was so confused by the matter that she could hardly corroborate information furnished by her mother and in fact, was probably confirming the information only to pacify her mother." The FBI then went back to Mrs. Kauffman: She was now having some doubt about the so-called advertisement. The FBI then discussed the possibility of charging Mrs. Hoover and Mrs. Kauffman with a crime. Besides the basic allegation, James DiEugenio tells his readers nothing about the emotional stability of Mrs. Hoover, or the thoughts of her son-in-law. Lisa Pease does discuss the incident further in Probe Magazine. (Volume 2, No. 6) Of course, she sees this all as FBI intimidation: "Following the perpetual pattern, it seems the FBI scared (or perhaps threatened would be the better term) away a potentially important witness." Of course, there is not one iota of evidence of any intimidation or any threat. How could she be an important witness? She couldn't produce any actual evidence! Lisa Pease then discusses Dr. Fernandez. But before we get to that, here is the FBI report of their interview with him: Dr. Fernandez was now teaching English and he sounds like a very interesting man. He opposed Batista and initially supported Castro. He only left Cuba when the oppression became unbearable. For some reason Lisa Pease decided that she had to make an accusation against Dr. Fernandez: "Not an ordinary Cuban by a longshot. And the chances of his being in contact with the CIA? According to an article in the San Francisco Chronicle of 12/27/77, "One of the CIA's ventures in the United States involved the subsidization of several publications whose editors and publishers had fled Havana to Miami after the Castro government came to power in 1958. The subsidies - in some cases they amounted to several million dollars - were passed to the publication through a CIA front in New York called Foreign Publications, Inc." Of course, Dr. Fernandez was teaching English - he was not an editor or a publisher in the United States. Pease continues: "Could the Cuban Dr. Julio Fernandez have known of both Ruby and Oswald before the assassination through some CIA connection? We don't know. That lead was dropped as quickly as it had been discovered." With absolutely no evidence, Pease accuses Dr. Fernandez of being involved with Ruby and Oswald. I am gratified the good Dr. Fernandez was spared the kind of interrogation that Ms. Pease would have happily taken part in. Ok, back to the story of Mrs. Hoover. Gary Schoener, a JFK researcher, who at the time was a clinical psychology graduate student in Minneapolis, did a lot of work trying to find her. He wrote three memos on the incident and he actually found and interviewed her. What follows are his three memos and the transcript of his interview. Here is his first memo from March 14, 1968. It's interesting that "Mrs. Hoover stated that she decided to keep an eye on the Fernandezes and that from time to time she picked papers out of their trash and kept them. When she had quite a pile of them (including names, addresses, etc.), she sent them to Senator Scott of Pa. from whom she got a nice thank you letter which she showed us." After reading this memo, I got the distinct impression that Mrs. Hoover had issues with the Fernandez family. She found them suspicious, and some of the neighbors also felt the same way. For instance, Schoener wrote that "One evening, however, one of the neighbors looked in a window and saw them throwing darts at it [a picture of Kennedy]." Here is Schoener's second memo from 7/7/68: Schoener says that "she mentioned that many of the people in Martinsburg had suspected the Fernandezes of involvement in the assassination." Here is Schoener's third memo from 12/13/68: Schoener sent an addendum to this memo to Sylvia Meagher: A large part of this memo is about Dr. Fernandez and his family. Mr. Leon Kentsinger, the high school principal, said that "the people of Martinsburg generally did not like them because they were Cubans, but primarily because they weren't clean and weren't good housekeepers." However, we do learn that the family left within two weeks of August 10, 1964 - because Mr. Fernandez got a better job near New York - and he had wanted to be near New York because of its arts and theater. I certainly wonder whether he decided to look for a new job because of the suspicions of his neighbors. Schoener finally interviewed Mrs. Hoover, and here is the transcript of their conversation: Please have a look at note #5 on page three. She identified a picture of Lee Harvey Oswald with a beard as being one of the people outside in a parked car. Back then, there were many stories circulating around the country about the assassination. Here is Warren Commission Document #76 that outlined some of the stories: Page 12 of the report mentions the incident under discussion: But wait, there's more! In July - August 1999, Lisa Pease of Probe Magazine once again looked at this incident and found an even more nefarious context: "Given that Sergio Arcacha Smith and Emilio Santana were seen in the company of Rose Cheramie at a club called the Silver Slipper, this note takes on new significance. The only possible explanation for this kind of specificity would be that Dr. Julio Fernandez or someone in his household somehow knew of the plot to kill Kennedy in advance." There is so much to say about this paragraph. Pease takes as the gospel truth that Mrs. Hoover really possessed an advertisement with the names Lee Oswald, Jack Ruby, and Dallas, TX written on it. The fact that it never turned up is no impediment to her. Even if we assume it existed, the fact is that Mrs. Hoover did not initially remember the name of the club. Her daughter remembered it as either the Silver Slipper or the Silver Bell. Perhaps her daughter heard on the radio a reference to Jack Ruby's one time club, The Silver Spur. On the Education Forum, James DiEugenio mentioned that Gary Schoener had done a lot of work on this case. Had Lisa Pease called him to discuss things? Check out an excerpt from the 3/14/68 memo above written by Schoener: Tying this incident to Rose Cherami via the Silver Slipper Club in Eunice, Louisiana is ridiculous. Mrs. Hoover was referring to the Silver Slipper Club in Las Vegas. Not only does Lisa Pease connect Dr. Fernandez with the Cherami story, the "only explanation" she can find, for all of this, is that he had foreknowledge of the plot to kill JFK. What does that say about her imagination, and what does that about her research skills? Her editor, James DiEugenio, who knows Gary Schoener, also linked the story to Rose Cherami in his book, Destiny Betrayed. There never was anything to this story. The well-intentioned Gary Schoener, like many other young people, got caught up in the assassination, and he went out and investigated. But there was nothing there. I certainly understand his enthusiasm to get out into the field. What's hard to believe is that conspiracy theorists like Lisa Pease and James DiEugenio, who you would think would know better, use this story to peddle suspicion of an innocent man, and to cite the story as some sort of corroboration for the Rose Cherami fable. I should add that James DiEugenio loves to cite non-existent evidence: a non-existent map of the Dallas sewer system in the possession of Sergio Arcacha Smith; a non-existent tape recording of conspirators in the possession of Richard Case Nagell; and non-existent photographs of Dealey Plaza taken by Bernardo de Torres. Then there is the non-existent map of Dealey Plaza found on David Ferrie's desk. And, the non-existent CIA memo about the harassment of Garrison's witnesses. UPDATE I sent a link to this blog post to Gary Schoener and he sent this message to be added: "I was fascinated to see all of these materials assembled so many decades after I originally compiled them. During most of that time I was not involved beyond sharing the information with the congressional investigation. I did not know Lisa Pease and do not know that she knew me or my work from so many years earlier. I still consider the questions it raised as unanswered and wish that the FBI had done its job of fully investigating. Sadly, although I went beyond the FBI, and we don't know what it was that Mrs. Hoover sent to them via Senator Scott (who confirmed this) which is not part of the commission's files, or what explanations Mr. Fernandez might have had for what the FBI had learned and the additional information I obtained. As for the Commission's summary of rumors, etc., I would note for the record that two of the largest documents in the archives were CD 1179 I and II -- plots against the president. Among crackpot stories were some serious ones such as the not too well disguised Miami plot which was tape recorded by an FBI informant. The FBI version does not make it clear that they had actual knowledge, and that the same group commented about how well it went as well as indicating that a key player was also the man who bombed the 16th Street Baptist church and killed those three little girls (a crime at the time still "unsolved")." Update Gary Schoener wrote the publisher of the Pennsylvania Mirror about Dr. Fernandez: Here is Schoener's reply: Again, all of this supports the notion that Dr. Fernandez was a good man and that he and his family were wise to relocate. Update 2 Here is an article from 1977 that provides further proof that this story is nonsense:

  • Rose Cherami's Modus Operandi

She always had the same M.O. -- claim to have information to get people to do something or take her places. Here is a report from 1965 about Rose Cherami getting the FBI to take her to Galveston in 1963, where her information proved useless: By the time this memo was written, Cherami was dead. Photo by Fred Litwin Rose Cherami did the same thing in 1957. She never provided meaningful information on drug smuggling. The above report was written in response to this report, of this incident which occurred just one month before her death: Cherami told the agents that she had to go along with the mob because they were "holding her six-year-old-boy, MIKE" in New Orleans, until she made $3,000 for them. Cherami refused to name those holding her son and walked out when agents probed further. It's interesting to note that she also told Lt. Francis Fruge back in 1963 that mobsters were also holding her son. Why not reuse a good story? • Monika Wiesak's Dreadful History

Monika Wiesak's book, Echoes of a Lost America, is a living testament to bad research. If you have ever wondered what is wrong with JFK assassination literature, this book is Exhibit One. The book is almost totally based upon secondary sources. Not that there is anything wrong with that, except the fact that Wiesak relies upon some really bad secondary sources. Right from the start, you can see her unfortunate biases. In her first chapter, Cui Bono, she starts, much like Oliver Stone, by looking at why JFK was assassinated. Five leading interests benefited from John F. Kennedy's removal from office: anti-Communist interests, pro-war interests, Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) interests, Israeli/Zionist interests, and powerful financial interests. Organized crime networks also benefited. She then spend ten pages in this chapter on Israel and American Jewish Zionists. It's tendentious history as recorded by anti-Israel books like Zionism: The Real Enemy of the Jews by Alan Hart; Taking Sides: America's Secret Relations with Militant Israel by Stephen Green; and Laurent Guyenot's The Unspoken Kennedy Truth. Guyenot has a history of animus towards Israel. Chapter Two in her book is titled "The Alleged Assassin," and it contains 62 footnotes, forty of which tie back to Destiny Betrayed (28) by James DiEugenio and On the Trail of the Assassins (12) by Jim Garrison. Let's look at some of what she wrote in this chapter: One of Oswald's duties in Japan was to guard the U-2 and use state-of-the-art radar equipment to track the plane. (page 41) Her source for this is pages 127-128 of James DiEugenio's Destiny Betrayed. Here is what he says: (page 128) As John Newman notes, and the Warren Report conceals, one of Oswald's duties while in Japan was to actually guard the U-2 while in hangar. Oswald also used state-of-the-art radar equipment to track the plane. His footnote is page 28 of Newman's book, Oswald and the CIA: Oswald and his marine companions had walked patrol to guard a supersecret espionage weapon hidden in an airplane hanger. As a radar operator, he had also tracked this dark object with advanced height-finding radar equipment. There is no footnote for this statement. But if you start reading the next chapter you will find this on page 32: Ok, so now we are in the Philippines, not Japan. And Newman's source for this is an interview with John Donovan, the officer in command of Oswald's crew while in California in 1959. Donovan only knew Oswald in 1959, after Oswald returned from Asia: He had not even known Oswald in Japan: Donovan only started talking about Oswald and the U-2 in the late 1970s when he testified before the HSCA and when he talked with Edward Jay Epstein, for his book, Legend, and with John Newman. Here is a note from Legend about Donovan and the U-2: But as we have seen, Donovan was not at Cubi Point. And there were no U-2s at Cubi Point when Oswald was there. Here is an excerpt from the Warren Commission testimony of Daniel Patrick Powers, who served with Oswald in the Marines, Wiesak, like Jim Garrison and James DiEugenio, tries to make the case that Oswald was not a Marxist: (page 41) While many of Oswald's Marine mates said he was studying Russian language and culture, only one, Kerry Thornley, who featured prominently in the Warren Report, claimed Oswald was a Marxist. This is just not true, and you can read some of what other Marines said about Oswald in this blog post. Wiesak then mentions fellow Marine Nelson Delgado: Nelson Delgado, who lived closest to Oswald and for the most prolonged period, stated that Oswald "Never said any subversive things." He elaborated, "He would discuss his ideas but not anything against our government -- nothing socialist." Her footnote for the above is Jim Garrison's book. However, here is what Delgado actually said: It appears that Delgado is referring to whether they discussed socialism in Spanish. She doesn't mention this: Their friendship began to wane because of Castro: And then there is the ever present six degrees of separation: (pages 48 - 49) According to District Attorney Jim Garrison, among de Mohrenschildt's close friends was Jean de Menil, president of Schlumberger Corporation, which had close ties to the CIA and which, like the CIA, had an interest in the OAS, a French paramilitary organization that had revolted against President Charles de Gaulle when Algeria was in the process of winning its independence. John F. Kennedy had been strongly supportive of Algerian independence and had even given a highly controversial speech in its support in 1957, which was anathema not only to the CIA but to the Mossad as well. Dr. Menil sat on the board of a company called Permindex (Permanent Industrial Exposition}. In the only criminal investigation into John F. Kennedy's murder, Garrison charged Clay Shaw, another board member of Permindex, with conspiracy to murder John F. Kennedy. Where does one even start with such nonsense? The whole history of de Gaulle and Algerian independence and its relationship to Kennedy and the CIA has been completely misinterpreted by conspiracy theorists. Her source for the fact that Jean de Menil was on the Board of Directors of Permindex is a publication by Lyndon LaRouche. There is no evidence he was on the Board at all. Here is a link to that entire issue of the LaRouchian Executive Intelligence Review. Here is a paragraph from page 52 which is referenced above: Completely insane. Bloomfield wasn't the head of FBI Division Five, whatever that is. Permindex was never "identified by French intelligence" for anything, let alone "30 assassination attempts on the life" of de Gaulle. And this brings me to Permindex. I happen to know a bit about Permindex and I have published on my blog Clay Shaw's file on Permindex and the complete State Department documents on Permindex. I have also examined the papers of Louis Bloomfield, a Montreal lawyer who represented several of its shareholders. So, let's have a look at what Wiesak says about Permindex. (page 58) On the surface, the purpose of Permindex/CMC was to offer a centralized site where businessmen could display goods and make deals. Underneath, however, Permindex/CMC was tied into various covert networks. Louis Mortimer Bloomfield, who lived in Montreal, Canada, has often been described as the founder of Permindex and its majority shareholder, but this is not entirely accurate. He was Permindex's attorney and was responsible for coordinating all the different players involved. He acted as a proxy for particular interests, effectively hiding their identities. These interests held stock in his name, and he occupied their spot on the board. Bloomfield was not the lawyer for Permindex. He was the lawyer for a few of the shareholders in the company -- notably shareholders in Canada and the United States, like the Pascal brothers in Montreal. He was also not on the board. The source for this paragraph is the book, One Nation Under Blackmail by Whitney Webb, published by Trine Day:. Wiesak basically copied her paragraph from the Webb book: (page 98 online) There is no footnote in the Webb book for this paragraph. I should add that the chapter in which this paragraph is included is titled "Mossad Goes To Rome," which gives you a flavor for what this book is all about. Back to Wiesak: (page 58) Bloomfield was connected to a number of Zionist organizations. He served as honorary counsel to the World Jewish Congress. He was also involved in building up the Canadian branches of the Histadrut, Israel's trade union complex, and was president of the Israel Maritime League. Both entities were involved with Zim Shipping, a key supplier of weapons to Israel. Indeed, Bloomfield was involved with smuggling arms to the Haganah in the 1930s. The Haganah was the central Zionist paramilitary organization before the establishment of Israel, when it became the core of the Israeli Defense Forces. Wiesak's source that Zim is a "key supplier of weapons" is a footnote referencing a book by Bernard Reich and David Goldberg. And here is what their book, The A to Z of Israel, says about the Zim Shipping Line: Oh my god, Zim transported arms and ammunition to the "nascent Jewish state." They weren't a supplier -- they transported stuff to Israel. Wiesak makes it sound evil. The second part of her paragraph about Bloomfield being "involved with smuggling arms to the Haganah in the 1930s" is sourced to page 5 of Louis Bloomfield's brother's (Bernard) book, Israel Diary. Here is an excerpt from page 5: There Amos met a soldier whom he hadn't seen for twelve years. They were at that time involved in the same arms-smuggling plot, back in 1936, for which Amos was sent to jail. But Amos was Bernard Bloomfield's brother-in-law, not Louis Bloomfield. Back to Wiesak: (page 58) Furthermore, according to a whistleblower at the NUMEC facility in Pennsylvania -- the facility that has been accused of smuggling uranium to Israel for nuclear weapons development -- it was the aforementioned Zim Shipping that transferred the material. Supposedly some canisters of highly enriched uranium were shipped to Israel via Zim Shipping in the late 1960s. But so what? What is Wiesak's point here? That Zim is evil? The next part of the same paragraph has nothing to do with Zim: (page 58) Edmond de Rothschild appears all over Bloomfield's correspondence and appears to have been intimately involved with Permindex/CMC. It was Lord Rothschild to whom the Balfour Declaration was addressed. The declaration was a public statement issued by the British government in 1917 which announced its support for a "national home for the Jewish people" in Palestine. Wiesak's source is the Webb book again, and here is the relevant paragraph from that book: (page 100 - 101 online) Rothschild was not involved at all with Permindex, and you can read a couple of the letters from Bloomfield here. But there was one business relationship between Baron Edmond de Rothschild and Louis Bloomfield and that was Tri-Continental Pipe Lines Ltd. This was a company, based in Calgary, Canada, which invested in a oil pipeline in Israel. Rothschild was the Chairman and Bloomfield was the firm's lawyer. Wiesak is also mixed up about the Rothschilds. The Balfour declaration was not addressed to Baron Edmond de Rothschild --- it was addressed to Baron Lionel Walter Rothschild, who died in 1934. Edmond was part of the French line of Rothschilds. You can learn more about Edmond de Rothschild here. Back to Wiesak: (pages 58 - 59) Lastly, and most critically, Bloomfield was one of approximately twenty-five key donors to Israel's nuclear weapons program. Also among the donors was Bloomfield's brother, Bernard, as well as the British and French branches of the previously mentioned Rothschild family. Wiesak's source for this sentence are pages 136 - 137 of Michael Karpin's book, The Bomb in the Basement: The institute in question was the Sonnenborn Institute, an organization started in 1945 by Rudolf Sonnenborn to procure weapons for the state of Israel. The Sonnenborn Institute was disbanded in 1955. I can imagine that the Bloomfield brothers helped out. But note that the paragraph from The Bomb in the Basement says that "It can be presumed" that the Bloomfield brothers donated to the campaign to fund the acquisition of a nuclear bomb. That is the only mention of Bloomfield is Karpin's book. Back to Wiesak: (page 59) Indeed, the two Bloomfield brothers first met Israeli Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion at a celebration of Israel's first anniversary. Good for them. What on earth is wrong with that? Back to Wiesak: (page 59) Permindex/CMC also had ties to the CIA as well as Italian intelligence, in addition to various connections to the Mossad, the Israeli intelligence agency. Her source for this sentence is the Whitney Webb book. No footnote and no details. Webb provides a few more allegations about Permindex and money laundering here: Everything is speculative. And the only source mentioned is Paese Sera -- a communist controlled newspaper that published a series of articles in March 1967 about Permindex that was full of disinformation. Back to Wiesak: (page 59) It received funding through J. Henry Schroder Banking Corporation, for which former CIA Director Allen Dulles had served as general counsel. Her source for this is James DiEugenio's book, Destiny Betrayed. But he is just plain wrong. Permindex did approach Schroder, but they did not invest. Here is an excerpt from a State Department Despatch of February 1, 1957: And an excerpt from a State Department Despatch of October 8, 1957: And we know from the Louis Bloomfield archive in Ottawa, Canada that Schroder never invested in Permindex. There are several hundred letters from Bloomfield to George Mantello in Italy amongst his papers. Many of them discuss financing as Permindex/CMC was always short of funds. There is not one mention of Schroder’s Bank in any letter. But even if had Schroder invested in Permindex, so what? Back to Wiesak: (page 59) With Bloomberg having access to the majority of its shares, he, and those he represented who are not known, essentially controlled Permindex/CMC. Some view Permindex/CMC as a sort of intelligence apparatus functioning transnationally. Indeed, Permindex/CMC, the International Trade Mart, and those affiliated with these entities greatly supported globalism over nationalism. Their views, in general, were opposed to Kennedy's views of a more decentralized system of power where national sovereignty played a significant role. They preferred a system of international banking and transnational and multinational corporation controlling the global economy. Wiesak is trying hard to push an 'anti-globalist" agenda here. George Mantello simply believed that the advent of the European Economic Community in 1957 provided an incredible opportunity to encourage trade. This is not nefarious -- this is just someone who understood political trends in Europe. Back to Wiesak: (page 59) Permindex has also been suspected in the death of Enrico Mattei, whose plane exploded in October 1962. Mattei sought to sign oil agreements with the Soviet Union, as well as Egypt and Algeria, which were, at the time, opposed to Israel. There have been multiple official inquiries into the incident. Italian journalist Fulvio Bellini turned over information to one of these inquiries alleging that Permindex had funded the assassination of Mattei. Oy! An assassination? Really? Wiesak's source for this is the Webb book: Enrico Mattei was killed on October 27, 1962, when his private jet exploded in mid-air and crashed near Milan. Michele Metta's book has an entire chapter on his alleged murder, but it is completely incomprehensible, and I see no evidence that Permindex was involved. He is the only source that I know that blames Permindex. Metta's book is unreadable, and is full of linkages without meaning and context. The idea of a relationship between the OAS and Permindex comes from Paese Sera and has no basis in fact. The first person to link the alleged murder of Mattei to the JFK assassination was Thomas Buchanan, in his book, Who Killed Kennedy? The Mattei case is malleable and can be used for any manner of conspiracy theorizing. Wiesak's next mention of Permindex is in Chapter 8: "New Investigations and Continuing Cover-Ups": (page 203) At the time of the trial, Garrison did not have any evidence of Shaw's links to the CIA nor his links to Permindex and its de-facto head, Louis Bloomfield. Garrison knew about the Paese Sera articles on Permindex and Clay Shaw -- and he knew about them in March of 1967. He also knew about Louis Bloomfield. In December 1967, a letter was sent by a professor at Sir George Williams University (by the way, which is where I did my undergraduate studies): Professor Herrmann actually gave Garrison Bloomfield's address and informed him that "He is the donor of the Bloomfield Stadium in Israel and president of the Canadian HISTADRUTH (the principal Israeli labor union), for whose charitable and other projects he does great work." So, the big unanswered question is why didn't Garrison just pick up the phone and call Bloomfield? Or he could have sent someone to Montreal. But he just wasn't that interested. The entire Wiesak book is full of errors, JFK assassination factoids, and erroneous conspiracy nonsense. Virtually every page is just plain wrong. This book is emblematic of what is happening to JFK assassination literature -- the connection to reality is tenuous at best. The JFK Assassination and Truth A short look at four horrible books on the assassination. Not surprisingly, James DiEugenio loved this book: She turns to Clay Shaw and notes the fact that he was reliably identified by the local sheriff as being seen with Ferrie and Oswald in the Clinton/Jackson area in the late summer of 1963. (p. 57) Through the work of Whitney Webb and Michelle Metta, she then links Shaw with DeMenil and Canadian lawyer Louis Mortimer Bloomfield through Permindex. About Permindex, she advances the case that it was a hydra-headed creation: CIA, Italian intelligence and the Mossad. She fingers Bloomfield as a key figure in Permindex because he had access to the majority of the shares in that enigmatic company. (p. 59) She also states that those associated with Permindex were globalists in their views of a world economy, e.g., Bloomfield, Edmond de Rothschild and Shaw. She points out, briefly, that this was opposed to Kennedy’s nationalist views. I couldn't resist one last example of poor scholarship. Wiesak talks about the HSCA's final report on page 205: As the report was originally written to put the full blame on Oswald, it still gave support to the single bullet theory and professed that the shot from the front missed. The committee reached this conclusion even though JFK's White House doctor, Admiral George Burkley, wrote a letter to the HSCA, stating that he had information that more than one shooter was involved in Kennedy's assassination. There is no record of Burkley being deposed by the HSCA. Her source is James DiEugenio's book of his documentary series, JFK Revisited: (page 67 in the Kindle edition) She can't even paraphrase correctly. Here is the paragraph from his book: In 1977, through his lawyer, he wrote a letter to Richard Sprague, chief counsel of the House Select Committee on Assassinations. He said he had information indicating that others besides Oswald must have participated in the assassination. He was willing to talk about it at this time. Sprague, who made clear his intention to fully investigate the CIA’s involvement, was forced out two weeks later. Dr. Burkley submitted a written statement to the House Select Committee, but there is no official record of him being deposed as a witness. Of course, DiEugenio is also wrong. Burkley's suspicions about the assassination had nothing to do with the medical evidence. You can read more about this here. Dr. Burkley was interviewed by the HSCA in August of 1977. He also signed an affidavit after a second interview. DiEugenio would never quote this paragraph from his affidavit: I saw President Kennedy's wounds at Parkland Hospital and during the autopsy at the Bethesda Naval Hospital. There was no difference in the nature of the wounds I saw at Parkland Hospital and those I observed at the autopsy at Bethesda Naval Hospital. Don't miss the full series on Dr. George Burkley: A Letter from Bill Baxley about Oliver Stone Bill Baxley, former Attorney General of Alabama, sent me a letter about Oliver Stone. "JFK: Destiny Betrayed" Misleads on Admiral George Burkley Oliver Stone's so-called documentary series, JFK: Destiny Betrayed, makes several outrageous allegations about Admiral George Burkley, JFK's personal physician, as well as a slanderous accusation. "JFK Revisited" Misleads on Dr. Burkley's Suspicions of a Conspiracy Oliver Stone's so-called documentary, JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass, misleads viewers into believing that JFK's doctor, Admiral George Burkley, said that there were multiple gunmen. "JFK Revisited" Misleads on the ARRB's Quest for Dr. Burkley's Lawyer's Papers Oliver Stone's so-called documentary, JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass, misleads viewers on the context of discussions between Burkley's family and the ARRB regarding supposed papers in the possession of his lawyer. "JFK Revisited" Recklessly Accuses George Burkley of being Involved in a Cover-Up Reckless charges are made against George Burkley with no evidence. "JFK Revisited" Misleads on Admiral Burkley and the HSCA Oliver Stone's so-called documentary, JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass, greatly misleads viewers on Admiral George Burkley and his interactions with the HSCA. "JFK Revisited" Misleads on Admiral George Burkley and Conspiracy Theorists Oliver Stone's so-called documentary puts words in Burkley's mouth. I am sure that in her defense, Monika Wiesak will point out that her book contains 968 footnotes. In this case, it's not quantity that counts, but quality. • Exposed! Louis Bloomfield's Letters to Baron Edmund de Rothschild...

Yes, can you believe it? Louis Bloomfield, who was involved with Permindex, wrote to Edmund Rothschild. Is this all part of a Zionist plot? Here are the letters: Full disclosure - here's an old business card of mine from 1985: Jordan Belfort, Leonardo DiCaprio's character in The Wolf of Wall Street, worked at L.F. Rothschild at the same time I was there. We were both laid off in the Wall Street crash of 1987. I did not know him. There was one business relationship between Louis Bloomfield and Baron Edmond de Rothschild. Edmond was the founder and Chairman of Tri-Continental Pipe Lines which built an oil pipeline in Israel. The company was based in Calgary and Bloomfield was the company's lawyer. You can also read Bloomfield's letter to George H. W. Bush here. • David Ferrie's Autopsy

David Ferrie on the right with an unidentified person. I have visited the Sixth Floor Museum twice to examine the papers of Patricia Lambert, author of False Witness, one of the best books on the Garrison fiasco. She spoke to many people in New Orleans and her notes provide a wealth of information. For the first time ever, here are her notes from a conversation with Dr. Ronald Welsh, the pathologist who performed David Ferrie's autopsy. Frank Minyard was elected coroner of New Orleans in 1974 and he was a good friend of Jim Garrison. In fact, he spearheaded efforts to get Garrison re-elected as District Attorney. Here is an ad from the March 18, 1968 issue of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, and Minyard is second on the list: Minyard weighed in on David Ferrie's death in Stephen Tyler's excellent documentary, He Must Have Something: (8:30) Here is an excerpt from a transcript: Narrator: On February 22, 1967, just five days after Garrison's investigation was publicly announced, David Ferrie was found dead in his Louisiana Avenue Parkway apartment, Frank Minyard: And he died of, my records show that he died from a ruptured, berry aneurysm, which is like a stroke, a blowout of an artery in the brain, but it's alleged that he left a typewritten suicide note, which I don't have, Nicholas Chetta [Coroner in 1967]: Gentlemen, this is the much sought after note that I just read the first paragraph to you the other day. Rosemary James [Journalist]: He was weird in his his living habits too. He was drinking only black coffee and diet Jello. I mean, this was, this was his diet. Nicholas Chetta: It [one of Ferrie's notes] reads as follows, to leave this life is, for me, a sweet prospect. I find nothing in it that is desirable, and on the other hand, everything that is loathsome. Rosemary James: When he had an aneurysm and died, it's not surprising that he died, although Garrison tried to say that he was murdered. Frank Minyard: I have pictures of Mr. Ferrie showing the inside of his lips being badly bruised. Mr. Ferrie was a known person who had hypertension. Nicholas Chetta [reading a Ferrie note]: All I got in return, in the end, was a kick in the teeth. Rosemary James: In fact, the autopsy showed that he had an aneurysm. He lived in such a way, it's not surprising to me that he had an aneurysm. Frank Minyard: Mr. Garrison discussed it with me at the time. If someone who had hypertension and took a lot of thyroid medicine, could it precipitate a blowout in an artery in the brain?, and I said not only a blowout of an artery in the brain, but a blowout of an artery anyplace. Nicholas Chetta: [reading a Ferrie note] Hence I die alone and unloved. Frank Minyard: Mr. Garrison's thoughts at that time was that someone had passed a tube down David Ferrie through his mouth, down through his esophagus, into his stomach and pumped in a large quantity of thyroid tablets. It was called Proloid. Nicholas Chetta: [reading a Ferrie note] As you sow, so shall you reap. Goodbye. Dave. Frank Minyard: There was no sign of struggle, no lesions on his body, no contusions, no bumps, no nothing, other than on the inside of his lip. And I don't think he got that from being punched, because it would have showed something on the outside. This had to be something that was traumatically inserted into his mouth, Rosemary James: Although Garrison said he was his star witness, of course, and when he died mysteriously, you know, his case was ruined. Jim Garrison: That is what's so unfortunate about picking out an individual and putting his picture on the front of the paper and in effect, implying that he's involved in the assassination when no law enforcement authority has mentioned his name or charged him or said a word about it. Layton Martens: Later, of course, after Ferrie died, Garrison then decided to tell the press that this was one of the most important men in history. Of course, he only did this subsequent to Ferrie's death, so therefore Ferrie was never able to defend himself, which made him a perfect target. At 7:06 in the Tyler film, Minyard says that Ferrie "had a grotesque physical appearance." Very few books mention the dissection of David Ferrie's brain and its subsequent examination by neuropathologist Dr. Paul McGarry. When the brain was cut and the artery was dissected, that all showed -- and the microscopic slides -- not only had it perforated, it had "scar tissue indicating that Ferrie had had another bleed, a small one previously, not fatal, at least one or two of them at least two week before he died. This is a common occurrence with berry aneurysm -- people have one or two before they blow out completely." Welsh is very clear that Proloid did not cause Ferrie's berry aneurysm. He told Lambert the idea was an "absolute fantasy, it doesn't jive with anything." At the bottom of the page, Welsh tells a story about Garrison and his work in a councilman's office. One thing we do know from Garrison's psychiatric record is that he easily tired and would never do that much work in a day. Even when he became District Attorney, he would spend most of the week at the New Orleans Athletic Club. Money Quote: "The facts are clear -- a ruptured berry aneurysm had bled one or two times before his fatal bleed. He had longstanding high blood pressure. A natural thing. Everything is a sign of a natural death. The idea that one big slug could have been forced down him to cause it is baloney."
