- On the Trail of Delusion, Episode 10, with Don Carpenter
It was a lot of fun speaking with author Don Carpenter on my podcast. Don is the author of Man of a Million Fragments: The True Story of Clay Shaw, a magisterial biography of Clay Shaw. Don did an amazing amount of research for this book, and it is an important addition to the literature about Jim Garrison. Here is a link to Don Carpenter's website. Previous Episodes of On the Trail of Delusion: Episode 1 My first guest was Robert Reynolds who is an expert on the JFK assassination files. Episode 2 Robert A. - Clint Hill, R. I. P.
Clint Hill died today at the age of 93. I never had the good fortune to meet Mr. Hill but all my JFK friends spoke very highly of him. Perhaps the best video of Mr. Hill is his 1975 60 Minutes interview with Mike Wallace. Here is a link to his website. Here is his oral history at the Sixth Floor Museum. Here is the Washington Post's obituary.
- My Research Trip to Dallas September 2021
I traveled to Dallas last week to visit Baylor University and the Sixth Floor Museum to view the Gus Russo, Dick Russell, and Patricia Lambert papers. Right after my research, I met up with a bunch of Facebook friends for our annual tour of Dallas sites. Visit to Baylor University Baylor University, located in Waco Texas, is accumulating a large collection of papers related to the JFK assassination. Jack Armstrong, R.B. Cutler, Gus Russo, Dick Russell, and Penn Jones have their papers there. The Gus Russo papers are a treasure trove of material - most of which were generated from the Frontline show on the life of Lee Harvey Oswald. This was my second visit to Baylor University. 2. Sixth Floor Museum The Sixth Floor Museum has the papers of Patricia Lambert, author of False Witness, one of the best books on the Jim Garrison investigation. This is my second visit to examine her papers, and I wanted to make copies of all the notes of Anne Dischler - the investigator who looked into the Rose Cherami case, and the Clinton witnesses. Scenes from the lobby of the Sixth Floor Museum 3. Facebook Meetup in Dealey Plaza We all met in Dealey Plaza on Friday, September. Here is a view from the knoll looking at the Hyatt Hotel: On Saturday, Robert Groden was at his usual spot on the knoll. Here is a picture of my friend Freda Dillard talking to Robert: I asked Robert Groden if he has a new book coming out, and he said he had nothing planned. I told him that he should write a memoir of his experiences over the years regarding the JFK investigations. 4. Meeting with Mary Moorman Six of us drove out to visit with Mary Moorman who took this famous photo right after the assassination: Here I am with Mary Moorman: It was a delightful afternoon. Mary is now 89 years old and is in great shape, both mentally and physically. She patiently answered questions for over two hours. She remembers three shots being fired that day and, at first, she thought they were firecrackers. She could not determine the source of the shots, and she did not see a gunman on the grassy knoll. Mary was with Jean Hill that day who was one of her best friends. But their friendship was never the same after the assassination. Ultimately, Hill would go on and write a book about her experiences. She sent a copy to Mary. Mary wrote her a thank you letter, but told Jean that their memories were quite different. People write Mary from all around the world. They send her copies of her picture and want autographs - they also include self-addressed stamped envelopes. She lets them pile up and every now and then she will go through a pile. Unfortunately, some people then put up their signed photographs for sale on e-Bay. Mary also has a collection of JFK assassination books. All of them were sent to her, but she has no intention of reading them. She believes the assassination is a mystery and that we might never know the full truth. Ms. Moorman is also a pretty good painter. Several of her paintings are on her walls, and here is one: Mary sold her famous photo at auction about 20 years ago. She does not know who bought it. 5. Oswald's Grave We all went out to see Oswald's grave: Right next to Oswald is a stone for "Nick Beef." You can read the whole story about Nick Beef here. 6. The Paine House We drove out to the Paine House. Unfortunately, it was after-hours and it was closed but we were able to walk around to the back yard. Last year, some of the lucky people in our group visited the Paine Home with Ruth Paine. Who better to give a tour? We then walked a few houses down to Linnie Mae Randle's home. Oswald did not have to walk very far that morning to get to her house. This is the Randle house. You can see the window from the kitchen in which Linnie Mae saw Oswald walking towards the car port. The garage doors have been added. Frazier's car would have been parked in the space on the left side - it was just an open area. The house has just been sold and is currently unoccupied. 7. Rose Cherami's Grave 8. Dallas Police Museum We were very fortunate to get a private tour of the Dallas Police Museum. Here are some pictures: Jack Ruby's business card. A highlight was going into some of the storage rooms. Here I am with Will Fritz's Tommy Gun: It was surprisingly heavy. Here is the group at the Police Museum (courtesy of Laura Pasley) 9. Rays Gun Shop This is where Jack Ruby bought his revolver used to kill Oswald. I believe this is the original sign. Four of us at Rays (courtesy of Freda Dillard) 10. Sonny Bryan's Smokehouse No visit would be complete without some barbecue. You gotta love these neon signs: Other Pictures Several people had a sweet tooth, and so we would go to Braun's for ice cream most nights. As a Canadian, I am amazed at the size of things in the United States - look at this sign about the shortage of supplies of various cups. Do people really need a 44 oz. cup? On the last day, we had drinks at the Texas Theater: (Texas Theater photos courtesy of Freda Dillard) Our last stop was a dinner at Campisi's, the restaurant where Jack Ruby used to eat. We are in Jack Ruby's booth. From left to right (Joseph Landwermeyer, Steve Roe, Freda Dillard, Frank Badalson, Bill Brown, Dave Ledbetter, Fred Litwin, Ed Murray) We are now planning to meet in New Orleans in March of 2022. Hope you can make it.
- Art Kevin Admits Garrison Did Not Have a Case Against Clay Shaw
Yesterday, I posted an article by Art Kevin from his website regarding Jim Garrison's case against Clay Shaw. It was a text version, with a few changes, from an article in The Assassination Chronicles, a newsmagazine from JFK Lancer: Several important points stick out about this article. Whenever I post an article from the so-called mainstream media, conspiracy theorists like James DiEugenio cry foul because he believes their journalists are all tainted. But Art Kevin was not a journalist from the mainstream media; he was a big supporter of Jim Garrison and wrote often for the L.A. Free Press, which was a big booster of Garrison. Needless to say, James DiEugenio did not like the Art Kevin article: "What is so dumb about this is that Kevin did not use any of the declassified files on the New Orleans case when he wrote this dumb article. By this time there were many of them, which as Garrison always said, would prove his case. Remember, Newman published his book before this which has a focus on New Orleans and AMSPELL, and Bill Davy had published his monograph on Clay Shaw based on the declassified record of the ARRB. Both of those pieces of work showed that what Garrison was saying was correct: Oswald was in Banister's office, Shaw was CIA, and they knew each other. Weird, if Oswald was a commie as Litwin says he was. Further, that the FBI and CIA had covered up evidence that showed the DA was right about what was happening with Oswald, Ferrie and Banister in New Orleans. So Mr. Kevin obviously was not doing due diligence, and Litwin says, hey, OK with me. What do you think, I am a real journalist or something?" Art Kevin didn't have to use any ARRB documents because he was in New Orleans speaking to Garrison and to his staff. His first-hand story is devastating, and thus DiEugenio has to ignore what he writes. For instance, Garrison also brought up the issue of homosexuality to Kevin: "Lee Harvey Oswald was dead of course but I heard constant reminders from Garrison that Oswald was likely bi-sexual which is what brought him into contact with David Ferrie. Even Jack Ruby who'd killed Oswald on national TV was allegedly gay or at the very least bi-sexual! As for Ferrie, he had been fired from a major airline for homosexual activity." This mirrors what Jim Garrison told Hugh Aynesworth, James Phelan, Merriman Smith, and Jack Anderson. It also mirrors the QUICK article that we have discussed over the past two weeks. In New Orleans, Kevin met with Jack Martin: "I also tracked down a private investigator who'd allegedly given Garrison names and "hot tips." He turned out to be an alcoholic and tried to get me to pay for his story." Kevin wasn't the first person Martin asked for money. It didn't take Art Kevin long to realize that Garrison had no case and that his witnesses were suspect: "When I pointed out to Sciambra that the witness list seemed shaky at best, he went quiet. "Why can't Russo remember without medical and psychological help?" I asked. Wouldn't his questioning under hypnosis be suspect because of the possibility of recall being implanted? Wouldn't the drug addict [Vernon Bundy] be suspected of trying to deal down for a lighter sentence? Wouldn't it seem Garrison went after Dean Andrews for perjury because Andrews refused to cooperate? And what about Andrews refusal to tie Shaw and Bertrand together as the same man? And what about the disparity of Bertrand-Shaw's physical appearance as Andrews told the WC? Sciambra, clearly looking as if a ton of bricks had come down on his shoulders, told me to take it up with Garrison. I did." He then confronted Garrison who told him he had "some things up my sleeve." All Garrison had was the Zapruder Film. Back and to the Left. Back and to the Left. Looking back, Kevin realized that the Garrison cupboard was bare: "I knew in my heart that had the Warren Commission Report been on trial, the verdict would have been "guilty." But it was Clay Shaw who was on trial and based on the evidence presented, there was no doubt he was innocent. I have often wondered if, in his heart of hearts, Jim Garrison didn't know the same thing and decided to gamble anyway?" All of this was ignored by DiEugenio. Instead, he has to fall back on this belief that the ARRB rescued Garrison's sham investigation. It didn't. Let's have a look at DiEugenio's claims. First, was Oswald in Banister's office? The only witnesses that DiEugenio presents in his book Destiny Betrayed in support of his theory are Delphine Roberts, Vernon Gerdes, and Jack Martin. Here are links that debunk each one of these witnesses: Did Vernon Gerdes See Oswald with Ferrie and Banister? Did Delphine Roberts See Oswald in Banister's Office? Did Delphine Robert See Oswald in Banister's Office? (Part Two) Did David Ferrie Introduce Jack Martin to Lee Harvey Oswald in Banister's Office? But Clay Shaw "was CIA," no? If you don't have a case against Clay Shaw, well, tie him to the CIA. That'll do, no? You can say the same about Hugh Aynesworth and James Phelan. Can't rebut their damning stories about Jim Garrison? Well just tie them to the FBI. Conspiracy theorists love this sleight of hand. The Art Kevin article included two pages from a CIA document on Clay Shaw and his role as a domestic contact: Clay Shaw was a domestic contact of the CIA, just like many other businesspeople, There's just nothing nefarious here. DiEugenio's last claim is that Clay Shaw knew David Ferrie. Over the last several months, I have systematically debunked every witness that DiEugenio claims tied Ferrie and Shaw together: Did Herbert Wagner see Shaw and Ferrie together? Did Clay Shaw's Secretary see David Ferrie in Shaw's Office? Did Sandra Anderson have a Photo of David Ferrie with Clay Shaw? Did David Ferrie Go Fishing with Clay Shaw? Did Clay Shaw Know David Ferrie? (Part One) Did Clay Shaw Know David Ferrie? (Part Two) Did Clay Shaw and David Ferrie Fly to Montreal? Did David Ferrie Fly Clay Shaw to Canada and to Cuba? Reverend Raymond Broshears Reveals the Shaw-Ferrie Link! Did Woodrow Hardy See Shaw, Ferrie and Oswald Together? Did Charles Krop Have a Recording Mentioning Shaw and Ferrie? Did David Ferrie Speak to Clay Shaw from Banister's Office? Art Kevin realized what was obvious to the Clay Shaw jury - Jim Garrison had no case.
- Was JFK Shot from a Vacant Lot?
In April 1967, Garrison's office received a letter with a statement. Here is the letter: And, here is the statement that was enclosed: Now, had I received such a letter and statement, I would have tossed it into the garbage. Not so in this case - this was a lead that must be investigated. And that was the end of a tantalizing lead.
- Great Review of On The Trail of Delusion
http://wtracyparnell.blogspot.com/2020/10/book-review-on-trail-of-delusion.html Great review of my book, On The Trail of Delusion by Tracy Parnell. "Fred Litwin has written a book that will be warmly welcomed by anyone who enjoys cold war era history and even long-time students of the Garrison saga will find fresh material here. Novices to the case will no doubt be shocked by the homophobia in both Garrison’s original investigation and Stone’s film and by Prouty and Stone’s anti-Semitic remarks. Undeniably, all but the most credulous Garrison acolytes will be appalled by the demonstrable miscarriage of justice against Clay Shaw and others documented by Litwin in this fine book."
- The Power of Subpoena
Jim Garrison had a lot of power. And he was determined to use his powers to achieve hjs goals. One of his biggest was his power of subpoena. One of his favorite techniques was to subpoena you to appear before the grand jury, and then charge you with perjury. Once charged, you would have to get a lawyer, and you would have all sorts of other problems - like getting a job, bank loans, etc. Garrison would often dismiss the charges right before trial. And he had the power to subpoena you with just the stroke of a pen. He just had to sign a piece of paper. Here is a document from the early part of the Garrison investigation. While in office, the law changed an Garrison could subpoena you just to appear in his office for questioning. Not surprisingly, people were fearful of his power. Check out this headline. As I detail in Chapter 1 - The Taking of New Orleans 1-2-3, of my book On The Trail of Delusion, Garrison discovered and used other powers. He bragged to Richard Billings, an editor of Life Magazine: "I won't take no for an answer. I've not gonna let somebody lie to me in this case; they lied to the Warren Commission, they lied to the FBI, they're not gonna lie to me. I'm gonna use every legal form of power I have at my disposal. I have the right to made the decision. I have the power available, and I'm gonna use it. If they don't like the way I use the power, then the solution is for them not to elect me next time. But until the next election comes up, I have it and I'm going to use it as effectively as possible; and I'm going to use it in new ways, perhaps ways that haven't been used before, and with imagination and if neccessary with aggressiveness and audacity in order to get people who have concealed the truth previously, to tell the truth." I have a lot more about how Garrison yielded his power in my book.
- What ever happened to Norman Gallo?
Here is a case study in paranoia. Barbara Reid, a resident of the French Quarter, worked closely with several of Garrison's investigators. She knew everybody in the area and she was the one who claimed that Kerry Thornley introduced her to Lee Harvey Oswald. Here is a memo based on information she provided to Andrew Sciambra, Assistant District Attorney under Garrison, about a certain Mr. Norman Gallo. In the minds of Garrison's investigators, this was all suspicious. Here is a memo on Gallo I found in the files of Bill Boxley, another investigator for Jim Garrison. He was certain that Mr. Gallo was involved in some sort of "intelligence activity." Garrison then wrote a memo in September 1968 titled "An Analysis of Potential Witnesses Indicating Role of the Military Industrial Complex in the Assassination of President Kennedy." I will post the entire memo tomorrow, but here is the section on Norman Gallo. I'm glad Gallo was no longer living in New Orleans, Otherwise, Garrison would have subpoenaed him to appear before the grand jury, and probably would have threatened him with perjury if he didn't corroborate Oswald's intelligence connections. At about the same time as the Garrison memo above was written, Garrison had a conference with his investigators, and Gallo came up: Garrison is talking in the first part of the discussion above [he is G]. T = Bill Turner; F = Bernard Fensterwald. Garrison says something strange - "if we can locate him, we may have somebody who may be willing to say 'yes, Oswald was with the CIA because of his philosophy...'" It's a bit scary when Fensterwald says "I have a man who is very good for this. He was 29 years a Special Agent for Internal Revenue. He'll dog somebody to the ends of the earth." What happened to Mr. Gallo? Well, I don't know if Fensterwald or Garrison found him, but here's a newspaper clipping from 1971.

- JFK Facts Whitewashes the Diem Coup
President Ngô Đình Diệm of South Vietnam Chad Nagle makes it seem like JFK did not approve the coup that ended in the assassination of Diem. On Nov. 1, 1963, President Diem and his brother, a top advisor, would be overthrown and murdered by Vietnamese military officers. The members of the junta that replaced them had been in close contact with U.S. Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge Jr. and the CIA. JFK was aghast at the killings, having never wanted anything worse than exile for Diem. Yes, Kennedy might have been upset that Diem was murdered, but he clearly authorized the coup. Here is the document that was sent out to Lodge. This article sums up what happened. The cable bounced through a slipshod approval process. Michael Forrestal of the National Security Council staff called Kennedy directly. Kennedy told him to get a senior administration official to approve it. Hilsman, Forrestal, and Averell Harriman then obtained approvals from senior officials who seemed under the impression that JFK had already approved it. Kennedy, hearing that his advisers had approved it, then gave his own approval. So, JFK definitely approved the Green Light Cable. But not in the serious deliberative fashion you might imagine. The implications of a coup, you might say, were not thought through. The cable told Lodge that Diem had to be given a chance to remove Nhu. If Diem refused, Washington would have to face the possibility that Diem himself “cannot be preserved.” Lodge was instructed to consider alternative leadership in case Diem was ousted. To be clear, the Kennedy administration and the CIA didn’t overthrow Ngo Dinh Diem, as it is sometimes claimed. Rather, they simply gave a green light to South Vietnamese generals who were plotting the overthrow. The wink and nod from Cable 243 was all they needed to proceed. Here is what JFK dictated on November 4, 1963: (1:15) I feel that we must bear a good deal of responsibility for it, beginning with our cable of early August in which we suggested the coup. In my judgment, that wire was badly drafted. It would never have been sent on a Saturday. I should not have given my consent to it without a roundtable conference in which McNamara and Taylor could have presented their views. While we did redress that balance in a later wire, the first wire encouraged Lodge along a course to which he was in any case inclined. It's hard to believe that Nagle could conclude his post like this: Personal aesthetics afford some leeway for stylistic preferences, but “lackadaisical encouragement” feels like a bridge too far in the field of rhetorical acrobatics. In any case, there is no evidence that JFK encouraged the “fatal overthrow” of a U.S. ally, only that he didn’t stand in the way of the plot to remove him from power. Fatal, no. But JFK did approve Diem's overthrow. I would also add that the memo showcased the large divisions within the White House on Vietnam and that JFK"s managerial style was ill-suited to the differences. Nagle has covered this ground before. He reviewed a review of Jack Cheevers' book, Kennedy's Coup here. But Nagle had not even read Kennedy's Coup: I haven’t read it, but if reviewer Clifford Krauss is to be believed, it’s another hatchet job on JFK’s Southeast Asia policy that blames the 35th president for the full-scale war that began in Vietnam after his death. And in November 2023, Nagle also wrote about the coup: He quotes JFK from the memo above: I was shocked by the death of Diệm and Nhu. I’d met Diệm with Justice Douglas many years ago. He was an extraordinary character. While he became increasingly difficult in the last months, nevertheless over a ten-year period he’d held his country together, maintained its independence under very adverse conditions. The way he was killed made it particularly abhorrent. But he left out the part of the memo that I quoted in which JFK takes responsibility for the coup. - RFK Jr.'s JFK Assassination Guru Promotes Crackpot Theories
RFK, Jr. said that the CIA was "definitely involved" in the JFK assassination. You can see the full video here: (go to 39:30 for segment on the JFK assassination) Here is an excerpt from a transcript: Interviewer: So, as president would you rethink it? And then just as a final question, let's kind of follow-up to that, do you believe they [the CIA] murdered or were involved in the murder of your uncle? What have you come to personally? RFK, Jr.: The CIA. Yes, they were definitely involved in the murder, and you know and the sixty-year cover-up. They're still not releasing the, you know, the papers that legally they have to release, but I don't think there's any doubt if you look at this huge, you know mountain, monumental mountain of evidence and confessions and you know so many people have confessed to their involvement and you know we understand the -- if you look, I mean for anybody who has doubts about that, I would recommend a book by Jim Douglass called The Unspeakable because I think he's done a better job than anybody else, in kind of assembling and distilling all of the millions and millions of documents that have been released over the past 50 years. And these things these revelations are released incrementally and so nobody really takes notice of them. But when you put them all together, the story is very clear. Who exactly has confessed to their involvement in the JFK assassination? Have I missed something? The name of James Douglass' book is JFK and the Unspeakable. You can read a good review here. JFK and the Unspeakable is structured so that it develops two parallel but supposedly complementary narratives: Kennedy’s statements and actions regarding Vietnam (in public, private, and in policy-making circles), and, simultaneously, the machinations of those who are conspiring to kill Kennedy. Both story lines are chock full of problems and cannot withstand elementary scrutiny. Long before Kennedy ever arrives in Dallas, Texas, and the strands finally come together, the book ceases to be non-fiction and enters the realm of a self-indulgent political fantasy. The plain fact of the matter is that JFK was a cold warrior who wanted to win in Vietnam. Withdrawal plans were contingent on the training of South Vietnamese forces. Kennedy was clear that timetables would change if the South Vietnamese were not up to the job. In addition, Douglass has bought into just about every crackpot theory about the JFK assassination: Douglass accepts the stories that Delphine Roberts told about an association between Guy Banister and Lee Harvey Oswald. But she has little credibility and the HSCA also rejected her testimony. Douglass believes the story that Oswald was an informant for the FBI. But this story was concocted by reporter Lonnie Hudkins. Here is a story in which Hudkins admits he fabricated the whole story: Dallas Morning News, March 11, 1975 Hugh Aynesworth has another version of the story claiming that he fed Hudkins the fake FBI number. Regardless, there is no evidence to support the allegation that Oswald was an FBI informant. Douglass believes former CIA finance office Jim Wilcott's allegation that Oswald was being paid by the CIA. and was thus an agent. However, Douglass does not tell his readers that the HSCA concluded that Wilcott's allegation "was not worthy of belief." Douglass accepts the stories of Richard Case Nagell who claimed that he was hired by the Soviets to kill Oswald to prevent the assassination. Nagell was the sole survivor of a B-25 plane crash in 1954 and suffered physical damage of his brain. Check out my various posts on Nagell. Aspersions are cast on Ruth Paine and Douglass ties her to the CIA through her sister and through Marina Oswald. He quotes Marina's testimony before the Garrison grand jury: But Marina was referring to the American Civil Liberties Union, and not the CIA. Tom Bethell discusses this in his diary: Marina made one remark that pleased Garrison. She said the Secret Service had told her to beware of Ruth Paine "because she was a member of the CIA." However, Alcock told me later that by the way she answered -- "that organization you join..." it was evident she meant something other than the CIA, namely the ACLU. The ridiculous story about a supposed plot to kill JFK in Chicago is accepted unconditionally by Douglass. There is no evidence of any plot in Chicago. And, the HSCA investigated the allegation and found nothing. The Rose Cherami story about having foreknowledge of the JFK assassination is repeated and Douglass even believes that she was shot in the head. Have a look at my several blog posts on Cherami. Julia Ann Mercer's story of seeing Jack Ruby in a truck delivering a rifle to the grass knoll is accepted without reservation. Over the years, her story just kept getting better. Douglass believes the incredible story spun by Gordon Arnold, a supposed witness on the grassy knoll, who supposedly filmed the assassination. Few people believe his story. And Ed Hoffman's unbelievable story of seeing a gunman toss his rifle to an associate who then got in a Rambler is told without skepticism. Few people believe his story. Roger Craig, a Deputy Sheriff who became part of the conspiracy crowd, is featured in Douglass' book. Craig was a troubled man who ultimately committed suicide. His stories lack credibility. John Armstrong's wacky theory of two Oswalds is endorsed by Douglass. Douglass believes Dr. Charles Crenshaw's view that JFK was hit by a shot from the front. Douglass accepts the story that Commander William Pitzer took photos and films of JFK's autopsy despite evidence that the was not even there. Further, he finds PItzer's suicide in 1966 to be another suspicious death. This is by no means a complete list. For a while, Douglass believed that Oswald was the man in the doorway in the Altgens photo. However, he came to his senses and changed the paperback version of his book. And it appears that James Douglass might be a 9/11 truther. He signed the petition of the group, Religious Leaders for 9/11 Truth. Their statement includes the following: The independent research, which has led to conclusions that differ radically from the official account, has been carried out by scientists and professionals in many relevant fields. It has led to the creation of several professional organizations, including Veterans for 9/11 Truth, S.P.I.N.E.: The Scientific Panel for the Investigation of Nine-Eleven, Pilots for 9/11 Truth, Scholars for 9/11 Truth and Justice, Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth, Firefighters for 9/11 Truth, Lawyers for 9/11 Truth, Healthcare Professionals for 9/11 Truth, and Political Leaders for 9/11 Truth. There is no statement from Douglass on the website, but it is curious that he signed their petition. I would definitely like to know more. RFK Jr. is promoting a book with crackpot theories about the JFK assassination. What does that say about RFK Jr.? - Dedicated to Admiral George Burkley
My new book, Oliver Stone's Film-Flam: The Demagogue of Dealey Plaza, has the following dedication: Dedicated to the memory of Admiral George Burkley, a baselessly accused loyal American who served his country honorably. I dedicated my book to Admiral Burkley because of the way he is treated in JFK: Destiny Betrayed - as a man who covered-up the truth. Oliver Stone's so-called documentary series claims that he did this to protect his family. But, in fact, Dr. Burkley was a patriotic American who deeply admired President Kennedy. The belief that he would participate in a cover-up of the truth about the murder of a man he was dedicated to is offensive. Here is a short excerpt from a transcript: Dr. Donald Miller: Dr. Burkley knew perfectly well why he wasn't asked to testify before the Warren Commission. The reason he didn't say anything to his children, he didn't want them to know that he was intimately involved in the cover-up. I am sure the Burkley family is bewildered by these reckless accusations. The cavalier attitude of conspiracy theorists allows them to ignore the real-life consequences of their baseless charges. Clay Shaw's life was ruined by Jim Garrison, and he was slandered by Oliver Stone. Larry Crafard, who briefly worked for Jack Ruby, had his marriage broken up because of the nonsense in conspiracy books. Kerry Thornley, who served in the Marines with Oswald, became hyper-paranoid and went off the deep end. Ruth Paine, who allowed Marina Oswald to room with her, has faced ridiculous insinuations that she was connected with the CIA. Carlos Bringuier, an anti-Castro Cuban in New Orleans, sent his wife and children to Argentina to spare them the pain of seeing him arrested by Jim Garrison. His wife then suffered a miscarriage. Roger Craig, a deputy sheriff in Dallas, went down the conspiracy rabbit hole and committed suicide. As Joseph Welch asked of Joseph McCarthy, “Have you no sense of decency?” You can read more about Admiral Burkley in my book or in the links below. Update: Here is a photograph of Dick Burkley, George Burkley's son. A Letter from Bill Baxley about Oliver Stone Bill Baxley, former Attorney General of Alabama, sent me a letter about Oliver Stone. Don't miss the Viewer's Guide to JFK: Destiny Betrayed and JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass. Over the past several months, I have shown in multiple blog posts how Oliver Stone's documentary series, JFK Revisited and JFK: Destiny Betrayed, misleads viewers. In fact, despite months of work, there are still many more misleading segments that need to be addressed. It's no wonder that the fact checkers of Netflix nixed the airing of the films. There is a choice between four hours of tendentious nonsense (JFK: Destiny Betrayed) and two hours (JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass). As a handy guide for viewers, here are all those posts in order of their appearance in JFK: Destiny Betrayed and JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass, preceded by some general critiques. The Viewer's Guide has now been updated to include the sources from my new book, Oliver Stone's Film-Flam: The Demagogue of Dealey Plaza.
