- Richard Case Nagell's Letter to JFK
Richard Case Nagell wrote a letter to JFK in January 1963 asking for help in getting a disability retirement from the military. Money quote: In 1954 I was the sole survivor of a B-25 bomber crash in which I sustained a serious head injury. Since then I have never been the same - mentally or physically - although the Army returned me to a general duty status and assigned me to military intelligence. I was aware of my condition but pride made me try to "hang on." Eventually, many of my superiors and co-workers could see that there was something wrong. I knew my subsequent military efficiency reports and other records, some of which are buried under the wraps of security classifications, substantiate this. My condition became worse as the years went by. Nagell wrote this letter while hospitalized at a VA Hospital in Bay Pines, Florida. He had complained of headaches and lapses of memory. Here is the reply: Here is the letter that Nagell wrote to Senator Thomas Kuchel in May 1960 that he referenced in his letter to JFK: Here is Kuchel's reply: He wrote: Dear Mr. Nagell: The enclosed report from the Office of the Adjutant General in the Army is, I believe, self-explanatory. If you should decide to submit an appeal to the Board for the Correction of Military Records, let me know and I will be glad to write the Chairman of the Board in your behalf. Here is that report from the Adjutant General: The acting Adjutant General suggested that Nagell apply for a correction to his military record and in February 1963, he submitted this application: Here is an internal Pentagon report on Nagel: Nagell's request for an examination was turned down -- as you can see it took quite awhile for Nagell to get a reply. A few months later, Nagell traveled from Los Angeles to El Paso. According to George Stanga, a prisoner who was incarcerated with Nagell, he stopped along the road three times to commit suicide. He tried again in his hotel room but did not that the nerve to pull the trigger. He then figured the best way was to have a shootout with a policeman, and so he decided to shoot up a bank because he knew a policeman would be there. A June 1966 psychiatric report by Dr. Joseph Alderete indicated that Nagell said he shot up the bank to get medical treatment: Ultimately, Nagell would sue the U. S. government and would win his retirement disability. - CBS Practices Stenography
CBS recently aired a feature on Jefferson Morley and his supposed discoveries in the JFK files . Here is an excerpt from a transcript: (3:56) Erin Moriarty : And [after the passage of the JFK Records Act] that's when Jefferson Morley, a seasoned reporter, began his own search for answers, Jefferson Morley : Because it's a great story, and because people weren't attacking it in a disciplined journalistic way, I kind of have the story to myself. Erin Moriarty : Morley, from his apartment in Washington, DC, says he never guessed he'd still be working the story thirty years later. Erin Moriarty to Jefferson Morley : And this [file folder collection] is all JFK? Jefferson Morley : Yeah, you see, here we go, day by day or week by week through 1963. Erin Moriarty : Morley estimates that four to five million pages of records have now been released. Erin Moriarty to Jefferson Morley : Look at this is handwriting you have to get through. There's redactions you have to go through. That would make me crazy. Jefferson Morley : It does make you crazy. You have to be very patient. Erin Moriarty : Morley says records show what the CIA kept from the Warren Commission, that the agency had been monitoring Oswald's behavior for years, tracking his travel, reading his mail. Jefferson Morley : We never understood before now how pervasive the surveillance of Oswald was. This guy was watched for four years. People at the top of the CIA knew what he was doing. They knew about his contacts. They knew about his personal life. Reporter : Did you kill the president? Lee Harvey Oswald : No, I've not been charged with that. In fact, nobody has said that to me yet. Jefferson Morley : The official story that one man alone killed the president for no reason, we know that's not true. Lee Harvey Oswald was not a lone nut. He was a known quantity to top CIA officers right before President Kennedy went to Dallas. We need an explanation of that story, and we still don't have it. Erin Moriarty : Morley's patience seemed to be finally paying off when even more documents were released. Donald Trump : A lot of people are waiting for this for a long -- for years, for decades ... Erin Moriarty : Following President Donald Trump's executive order this past January, Donald Trump : ... Everything will be revealed. Erin Moriarty : And what did those documents reveal? Jefferson Morley : The attitude of obstruction and obfuscation from the CIA started on November 22 1963, and that attitude, unfortunately, has continued to the present day. Erin Moriarty : What was clear from the Congressional hearing that followed in April is that there are still no bombshells, nothing to conclusively contradict the official story of the assassination. Still, according to Morley, there is more evidence that the CIA buried what it knew about Oswald. But why? Erin Moriarty to Jefferson Morley : So if, in fact, the CIA had been watching Lee Harvey Oswald, and they didn't realize that he was about to assassinate a president, that's very embarrassing. Couldn't that just be the only reason why they hid all that information? Jefferson Morley : That's one ... Erin Moriarty : In confidence. Jefferson Morley : There is no CIA official who has ever said that. Leon Panetta : As far as I can see, there's nothing that changes the conclusion that Oswald acted alone in the assassination. Erin Moriarty : It might surprise you to hear that Leon Panetta is as curious as the rest of us to learn what's in CIA records, since Panetta ran the agency from 2009 through 2011, under President Barack Obama. Erin Moriarty to Leon Panetta : Wouldn't you know as a former Director [of the CIA]? Leon Panetta : Not really, because frankly, when you're a director of the CIA, you're pretty much focused on the threats that you have to deal with in the world that you're in. Erin Moriarty : But Panetta says the CIA is often concerned that releasing documents, even after decades, can jeopardize agency assets. Leon Panetta : Was there a legitimate concern that they were trying to protect, or was there something more sinister? And you know what? We really don't know the answer to that question. Erin Moriarty : So, you don't rule out the idea that there might be something more sinister. You're just saying there's no evidence of that. Leon Panetta : That's correct. Jefferson Morley at Luna hearings : The transcript which the CIA withheld from public view for half a century. Erin Moriarty : Last April's hearings brought Jefferson Morley full circle. Jefferson Morley at Luna hearings : I'm actually optimistic that we can get to the bottom of this matter. Erin Moriarty : Testifying next to Oliver Stone, whose film first inspired him, even without any startling disclosures, Morley is confident that hidden in a government document somewhere, there's a story waiting to be told. Jefferson Morley : People are expecting a blinding flash, a smoking gun. When you've been at this for a long time, you know, I'm not looking for a smoking gun. I'm looking to complete the picture. Is this journalism? Erin Moriarty didn't talk to any of the people who know something about this story -- she could have reached out to me, to Gerald Posner, to Tracy Parnell, to Gus Russo, to Robert Reynolds, to Paul Hoch, or to Michael Isikoff. But she didn't. She either didn't know who to turn to or she didn't care. So, she is practicing stenography, not journalism. She could have certainly disagreed with any of the experts above, and that would be her right as a journalist. But her viewers will never know that there are serious researchers who take exceptions to Morley's allegations. Lee Harvey Oswald was not under Surveillance Morley's list of six CIA operations do not prove that Oswald was under surveillance. The CIA's Pro Bono Lawyers Morley claims the SpyTalk authors are working as pro bono lawyers for the CIA. Did the CIA Know Oswald's State of Mind? The CIA was just quoting from a State Department memo. SpyTalk on the Joannides' File, Part Two SpyTalks replies to Jefferson Morley. The Illusion of a Smoking Gun Gerald Posner on the Joannides' file. Fact Checking Morley's Fact Check Morley's Fact Check on SpyTalk needs a fact check. SpyTalk on Morley's Nothingburger Gus Russo and Michael Isikoff on the Joannides' personnel file. Jefferson Morley's Unbearable Lightness of Being Now that the entire personnel file of George Joannides has been released, Jefferson Morley has now published his unified theory of nothingness. And she fawned over Morley's JFK files! Erin Moriarty to Jefferson Morley : Look at this is handwriting you have to get through. There's redactions you have to go through. That would make me crazy. Jefferson Morley : It does make you crazy. You have to be very patient. And while Morley says that he is not looking for a smoking gun in the past he has claimed that he has found one: Why is the CIA so recalcitrant? Some claim the blameless Agency has nothing significant to hide. With all due respect, that argument is simply wrong. The CIA does have something to hide, something significant, something embarrassing, something potentially explosive. Among the CIA’s JFK secrets is a proverbial “smoking gun” that demonstrates the official theory of a lone gunman is misleading, if not deceptive. I don’t use the term “smoking gun” lightly. I’ve been reporting on the JFK story since I published a story in the Washington Post in April 1995, based on my interview with retired CIA officer Jane Roman. A declassified routing slip, shows Roman signed for an FBI report on Oswald just eight days before Kennedy was killed. Or in this post : James Robenalt, historian, lawyer, and author, grills Jefferson Morley, editor of JFK Facts, about the release of the personnel file of undercover CIA officer George Joannides. What does this file tell us about the events of 1963? (A lot.) Who was Joannides in the CIA scheme of things? (Trusted and decorated.) Is the file a ‘smoking gun?’ It’s smoking gun proof of a CIA operation to blame JFK’s death on Fidel Castro. Of course, Morley really isn't looking for a smoking gun, he's looking for "fact patterns." And Morley is certainly adept at finding "fact patterns." - My Quillette Article on Morley's Nothingburger
Here is a link to my article on Morley's Nothingburger . Unsurprisingly, Bannon then welcomed Morley on to his podcast, as the two cranky ends of the political horseshoe met on the common ground of the JFK assassination. The radical Left was never able to accept that a Castro-loving Marxist had killed an American president. Now MAGA also has an assassination conspiracy suited to its ideological needs, and it points directly at the Deep State. It is, it turns out, the same conspiracy that targeted Donald Trump. Morley is now asking Luna to obtain and declassify yet more documents. None of these will have any direct relevance to the JFK assassination either, but there will be more sensationalist headlines just the same. Of that much we can be certain. - Josiah Thompson on Jim Garrison's Shot from the Sewer
Headline from the front page of the Los Angeles Free Press of Dec 22 - 28, 1967 At the end of 1967, Jim Garrison went public with allegations that JFK was shot from a sewer on Elm Street. Here are my three previous blog posts on this topic: Was JFK Shot From a Sewer? Jim Garrison sent Stephen Jaffe to Dallas to investigate the possibility of a shot from the sewer on Elm Street. Jim Garrison on the Shot from the Sewer Garrison is interviewed about the shot from the Sewer. Jim Garrison's Shot from the Sewer The actual press releases sent out by Jim Garrison about the shot from the sewer. The December 22 - 28, 1967 issue of the Los Angeles Free Press covered the shot from the sewer (the front-page headline is above). Here is the entire article: In the January 5, 1968 issue of the Los Angeles Free Press , there was an article entitled, "Prof. Thompson Defends Garrison." The article was based on an interview with Thompson and was largely about his book Six Seconds in Dallas . However, he also made a few comments about Jim Garrison. Sylvia Meagher was not impressed with the coverage : Thompson also wrote the Los Angeles Free Press, and included a critique of Garrison's sewer shot: They did publish his letter : Bonus letter: Sylvia Meagher to Thomas Stamm about Garrison's interview on WFAA : Here is the excerpt of that interview in which Garrison discusses the shot from the sewer : (page 5) Martin : You said a moment ago you would show us or tell us where you think that bullet was fired from, that the man was picking up from the grass there. Where do you think it was fired from? Garrison : Well ... this is going to be the first time I've ever shown this, but we've gotten a little tired of hearing people like Earl Warren and Ramsey Clark, who ought to know better, saying repeatedly, that they've seen nothing new. Well, I'm going to show them something new. I think we just showed something new in this 45 caliber bullet because they've never mentioned it in 26 volumes. Right next to where the President was killed, just a little bit in front of where the President was killed, there is a sewer opening. Underneath Dealey Plaza there is a drainage system. Dealey Plaza used to have a bunch of houses and they were taken down to make the plaza. You have a surface drainage system with pipes through which men can crawl. The small ones are 15 inches wide, and the large ones are 30 inches wide. One of the assassins went, got his, made his exit through the subsurface drainage system. The one who went through the drainage system was the man who killed the President, who fired the 45 from the right by the side of the car and tore the President's head off. Now we went into the sewer one morning early in Dallas, got in in the dark, put the top down and we found a man fits in there very easily, we also found that after shooting from it it's easy to crawl under the street through the 15 inch pipe, when you're in a 30 inch sewer which leads out of Dealey Plaza to another part of the town. Entrance can be gained through two ways to the sewer area. I don't have a picture of the sewer here, but you can take pictures in Dallas. Entrance can be gained directly above the sewer through a manhole. Martin : Behind the grassy knoll? Garrison : Well, no, that's another place but it can be entered above it by removing the cover of the manhole. You remember about an hour before there was a truck parked over the pavement which Julia Mercer saw but there can also be entrance behind the picket fence through a 3x3 grating down by the overpass which lifts up, you get in and you crawl through the 15 inch tunnel and you'll end up, there's only room for one man in the manhole but he can stand up in the manhole and when he gets in there he has a clear view of the occupants of a convertible from the chest up. In other [...] we didn't know until we put a man in there in the dark hours of the morning and waited until the sun came up and took photographs that you could see so clearly to the occupants inside the car, but you can. Martin : All right, when you are inside the vantage point, from inside, where is that in relation to where the man was picking up something from the grassy areas across the street? Garrison : Well, it's in a cattycorner kind of way. It's opposite, actually this is the proper way. The shooting was not due South it was towards the car as it approached diagonally slightly and if the line continues that's where the bullet ended up with the pieces of the President's head surrounding it. This is the bullet that disappeared as soon as the federal ... got its hands on it. The 45-caliber bullet from a handgun which was fired from the sewer. Martin : Mr. Garrison, do you believe you have the identity of the person who was in that sewer? Garrison : I would, I would not be accurate if I said I had the identity of the man in the sewer. We now have a number of names of individuals who apparently were at the operating level. I'd say four but there were so many more that I'd rather not speculate which one was standing where, so in all honesty, I'd have to say the identity of that particular man, no.

Find out why Fletcher Prouty fell for the Iron Mountain hoax. The New York Times favorably reviewed Phil's book : “Report From Iron Mountain” was soon revealed as a hoax. But it was so good a hoax, so deft and deadpan and precise in its aim, that nearly 60 years later, it retains a certain hold on the public consciousness. The story of this report — who conceived it, what they intended and why it endures, like toxic waste leaking from a metal drum — is the subject of “Ghosts of Iron Mountain,” an excellent new book by the British journalist Phil Tinline. His fast-paced account is often entertaining but never loses sight of where it is heading: toward a moment, our own, when conspiracists and crackpots have seized the levers of power. - Lee Harvey Oswald was not under Surveillance
Jefferson Morley is in love with CIA cryptonyms . So let’s take a closer look at the six CIA operations that involved the man who would become known the “lone gunman.” What meets the eye when we open the Oswald file? Here are the six operations: HTLINGUAL Morley says that "Angleton ordered Oswald’s correspondence to be open and copied when he was living in the Soviet Union November 1959 and May 1962." But that's not really true. The CIA ran a program called HT-Lingual which intercepted some mail going to and coming from the Soviet Union. On November 9, 1959, Lee Harvey Oswald's name was added to the watch list because of his defection to the Soviet Union. The Church Committee estimated that 75% of the letters that were opened were chosen at random, not because the name was on the watch list. The program intercepted a letter from Marguerite Oswald to her son and that was it. After the assassination, additional items of potential relevance to the assassination investigation were recovered from the HT-Lingual files, but those additional items did not include any correspondence to or from Oswald himself. Here is an HSCA document about HTLINGUAL. AMSANTA Here is a document which describes this operation: Morley claims that an informant allowed the FBI to photograph the Fair Play for Cuba Committee's files in New York. But AMSANTA was a CIA operation. I am not sure how this operation pertains to Oswald. AMSPELL AMSPELL was the CIA cryptonym for the DRE. I have written about this over and over again. Carlos Bringuier was the DRE delegate in New Orleans, but he was not paid, and he was not directed by the DRE in Florida. Morley writes that "Multiple FBI reports on Oswald’s ensuing arrest and his FPCC activism were sent to the Counterintelligence Staff." But so what? This is not surveillance. This is reporting. LIEMPTY Here is a file on the LIEMPTY operation. LIEMPTY sent a photograph of a man they thought was Oswald visiting the Soviet Embassy in Mexico City. This is not surveillance of Oswald, but surveillance of the Soviet Embassy. LIENVOY Robert Reynolds presented a good history of LIEMPTY and LIFEAT : LIFEAT was a wide ranging teltap operation, i.e. CIA was listening in on people’s telephone conversations. The taps were in Mexico City. LI is a digraph code, indicating Mexico related. FEAT is a randomly chosen codeword. There were two major CIA teltap operations in Mexico City in the early 1960s: LIFEAT and LIENVOY. LIENVOY was a joint operation with the Mexican government, proposed and put into place by the then president of Mexico Mateos-Lopez. This was one of the great secrets that CIA concealed for as long as it could. LIENVOY tapped the lines of Cuban and Soviet Russian diplomatic facilities, and was highly regarded by both U.S. and Mexican governments for the type of information the operation provided. It was the LIENVOY tap which recorded a phone call to the Russian embassy from someone who identified himself as Lee Oswald. As one might expect, this call and several others which the CIA later determined were related to Oswald, was an important part of the Warren Commission investigation into President Kennedy’s death, and perhaps an even MORE important part of the HSCA re-investigation of the JFK assassination. Morley writes that "The LIENVOY intercept of Oswald was immediately passed to the Counterintelligence Staff." Again, this not surveillance of Oswald, but surveillance of the Russian embassy. LCIMPROVE The CIA defined LCIMPROVE as " counter espionage involving Soviet intelligence services." Winston Scott, head of the CIA station in Mexico City, used this moniker when reporting on Oswald. But so what? One would expect he would report back, and that is not surveillance. As you can see, these operations were not designed to surveil Oswald. But Oswald brushed against American intelligence in his defection to the Soviet Union in 1959 and his visit to the Soviet and Cuban embassies in Mexico City in 1963. Of course, Oswald would have a file at the CIA before the assassination. Morley is surprised by this: So after four years of surveillance, the six CIA operations served up detailed and timely intelligence on the unknown Oswald that was delivered to senior officials. By November 21, 1963, the Oswald file ran to 194 pages, including 12 State Department cables, 12 FBI reports, 11 CIA memoranda, along with references to Oswald’s intercepted correspondence. But if we look at the documents that were in the possession of the CIA before the assassination, we find: Telegrams from the State Department regarding his defection. Newspaper articles about Oswald's defection. Foreign Service Dispatches on Oswald. An FBI report about Marguerite Oswald wiring money to her son in Russia. Letters between the State Department and the CIA concerning defectors. Department of State memo concerning a discussion with Marguerite Oswald. Letter to Oswald from the State Department about visit American Embassy in Moscow. FBI memos on Oswald's defection. A letter Marguerite wrote to her son in Minsk. FBI report about an interview with Oswald in 1962. Why is any of this controversial? Would anybody expect this stuff to NOT be in a CIA file? Morley then goes on to accuse two CIA directors of lying: In an affidavit, McCone stated unequivocally that Oswald “was not an agent, employee, or informant of the CIA, that the Agency never communicated with him in any manner or furnished him any compensation, and that Oswald was never directly or indirectly associated with the CIA.” Deputy director Richard Helms testified the CIA’s pre-assassination information about Kennedy’s accused killer was “ probably minimal.” But McCone was right -- Oswald not an agent, employee, or informant of the CIA. And I've blogged several times that Richard Helms only said the information from the State Department was minimal. What I also find frustrating about Morley's language is his use of factoids that just aren't true: The Oswald file is not proof of a criminal conspiracy to kill the president, not quite. But it does debunk the theory of a “lone gunman.” The file shows definitively that Oswald was not “lone” in the sense his actions were unobserved by the U.S. authorities. To the contrary, his actions interested to top counterintelligence officers at CIA headquarters and their interest grew stronger in late 1963. If Oswald was the gunman who killed Kennedy, he was not “lone” but known, known to a small group of intelligence professionals, some of whom ran assassination operations. And if Oswald didn’t kill Kennedy that group had even more to hide. The story of “lone gunman,” the Oswald file tell us, was a cover story. It covered the CIA’s counterintelligence interest in Oswald from public view for six decades. Now that the Oswald file is in the public domain, the story of the "lone gunman” is no more. But no one except Jefferson Morley makes the claim that Oswald's "actions were unobserved by U.S. authorities." The CIA files does NOT tell us that the story of the "lone gunman was a cover story. Except, of course, to Jefferson Morley. - There Was No "Oswald Operation"
The CIA has finally released its files on George Joannides. These documents are also on the Mary Ferrell website. The press headlines are just ridiculous : And guess what? There is nothing in these documents about any so-called "Oswald Operation." Remember, Morley was convinced that the Joannides personnel file had details of some undisclosed CIA operation involving Lee Harvey Oswald. He said this during his press conference in December 2022 : (from 57:57 to 58:50) What are they hiding? We can now answer that question with some precision. The CIA is hiding 44 documents known to exist in Joannides' personnel file that will shed light on his secret activities in 1963 and 1978. These include information about a CIA operation involving Lee Harvey Oswald that has never been disclosed. I'm not crazy about the term 'smoking gun.' I think that's a bit of a cliche -- it's not a term that investigative reporters use but I think in this case it's appropriate. What we are talking about here is not smoking gun proof of a conspiracy to kill the President. We're talking about smoking gun proof of a CIA operation involving Lee Harvey Oswald that the CIA is still concealing in 2022. This body of records has profound implications for the official story of the assassination. And Morley was certain what Joannides' personnel file contain ed The 44 documents held in Joannides’ personnel file, for example, do not mention Oswald’s name but they do concern the intelligence methods and the cover—the false identity—that Joannides used in late 1963 when his psy-war agents collected intelligence on and generated propaganda about Oswald, depicting him as a pawn of Fidel Castro. Morley also wrote thi s: In mid-1963, senior Agency officials approved a covert operation that used Lee Harvey Oswald for intelligence purposes, three months before Oswald allegedly shot and killed the president in Dallas on November 22, 1963. The CIA hid this operation from the Warren Commission in 1964, from the House Select Committee on Assassinations in 1978, and from the Assassination Records Review Board (ARRB) in 1998. The explosive story is told in 44 JFK records that the CIA has “denied in full” to the public. But the documents reveal none of the above. No Oswald operation. Absolutely nothing about Lee Harvey Oswald. Nothing about a mission to deceive the HSCA. The only thing that was revealed was that Joannides received a driver's license in the name of Howard Mark Gebler in 1963 : The CIA had previously denied the usage of the alias "Howard." Did they lie? Did Joannides need this ID for some particular reason? Did he use the name Howard Gebler when working with DRE? I don't know. But it doesn't affect the fact that the new files show nothing about an Oswald operation. You can see some of the DRE documents addressed "to Howard," here , here , here , and here. - Did the CIA Know Oswald's State of Mind?
Jefferson Morley's Substack post on the supposed CIA surveillance of Oswald wonders how CIA officials knew his state of mind. You wouldn’t know it from Isikoff and Russo’s underinformed account but all five signed off on a cable about Oswald on October 10, 1963, which they drafted after consulting the Oswald file. We know they looked at the Oswald file because because the cable quotes verbatim from a 1961 State Department dispatch stating Oswald’s time in the Soviet Union had a “maturing effect” on the ex-Marine. How do Isikoff and Russo explain the fact that CIA officials said in October 1963 that Oswald, the alleged assassin, was “maturing?” They don’t. They are silent about this fact because it fatally undermines their argument. If Oswald wasn’t under surveillance, how could top CIA officials confidently pronounce about his state of mind? I am confused about what Morley is trying to say. He even admits that the CIA cable in question is quoting from a 1961 State Department memo. So, all the CIA was doing was just quoting from a cable in their file. Here is the entire CIA file: And here is the State Department memo that was quoted above, which was in Oswald's CIA 201 file : This memo was quoted in the Warren Report , and was also included in the hearings and exhibits. Commission document 294 contained the State Department memo . Oswald had realized that life in the Soviet was drab and boring and he hated the indoctrination sessions. He realized that he wanted to come back to the United States. And so the State Department people who were dealing with him felt he had matured somewhat from when he first appeared as an angry 20-year-old. Here is an excerpt from the testimony of Richard Snyder : Snyder noted that "his manner of speech, and his general approach to the degree that I recall it was, well, less stiff, less formal, and certainly less haughty than it had been on the first occasion. He also didn't use with me the kind of Marxist sloganeering which I had got from him on the first interview ..." So, CIA officials didn't pronounce on Oswald's state of mind -- they just quoted from a State Department memo from 1961. There is no mystery here at all. - SpyTalk on the Joannides' File, Part Two
SpyTalk's Jeff Stein, Michael Isikoff and Gus Russo respond to Jefferson Morley's Fact Check on the Joannides File. Morley has a heavy lift in theorizing that sometime in the summer and fall of 1963, the CIA somehow managed to create a new identity for Oswald as an anti-Castro activist. Indeed, there is no evidence for any of that—as The Post could’ve quickly determined had it fact-checked Morley’s sensational “new evidence.” Nothing we raised last week is difficult to find online. What’s its excuse now for failing to retract its entire story? (Standards Editor Karen Pensiero has not responded yet to our further inquiries.) It’s worth noting, by the way, that In 2018, reporter Tom Jackman likewise channelled Robert F. Kennedy Jr’s baseless allegation that someone other than Sirhan Sirhan murdered his father in 1968. Experts took exception. And why is all this important? The most extreme political elements of this polarized country cite the “JFK conspiracy” as the origin of the Deep State, a supposed cabal of intelligence and military officials—Democrats, mostly, in the current iteration—who have been pulling the strings of U.S. national security policies since World War Two. Candidate and now President Trump and his minions rode wild Deep State allegations into office, but in the Jeffrey Epstein case, they’re finding that conspiracy theories can bite both ways. Bottom Line: Two massive investigations, including an independent bipartisan congressional probe , correctly concluded that a longtime professed Marxist (and onetime defector to the USSR) named Lee Harvery Oswald fired the only shots that killed JFK and Dallas Police Officer JD Tippit. Jefferson Morley’s contemporary followers have probably never read either—all the more reason that the Washington Post, still one of the world’s most influential opinion makers, should not help conspiracy entrepreneurs muddy the waters. It’s poison. Please read the entire SpyTalk article, It's worth your time, and it's worth your time to subscribe to SpyTalk.
