Garrison was popular! You really should read my book. The people of New Orleans love entertainment, and Garrison provided that. But, what he did to Clay Shaw was a scandal and he should have been removed from office. Having a deranged conspiracy believer in public office is a recipe for disaster - and that's what happened.

Sanctimonious and self-righteous. The verdict no doubt was the right one, but the issues were not as clear-cut as this suggests. Garrison was subsequently re-elected with a large majority and finished his career as a federal judge.
